woohoo, vista is delayed. time to celebrate. its utter junk imo. i didnt get XP until like 4 months ago and even then, my old pc is running win2kpro. win2kpro would be on my new pc if it wasnt for sli. i understand their reasons but come on, just release DX10 on 2k and XP. id pay for it if it did come out for it. so much more stable(2k) and uses a lot less resources. i miss my 2k

If every single one of us said NO to Mr.Gates, do you think he would win? Unfortunately this will never happen... :bawl:

7800GS will be my choice of card than. Very nice...
At least a couple of years before

1)The new systems become affordable.I am strictly midrange guy.
2)Before a new DX10 game comes along that in one sweep makes my system obsolete and me shake and drool with the need to play it.

i'd have to disagree that Billy is the driving force behind games. he knows that 90%+ of the world uses Windows in some form or other. so what does he do? he makes game developers have to use DX just to play games on his OS. OpenGL is a better app or why would every CAD or Animation rendering company use it over DX? here's a little info on the differences between the two and you tell me which is better:

    Both contain:
    Extension Mechanism
    Full-screen Antialiasing
    Motion Blur
    Depth of field
    Updates Yearly

    Microsoft additional:
    Vertex Blending

    OpenGL additional:
    Multiple Operating Systems
    Development through Multiple member Board
    Thorough Specification
    Two Sided Lighting
    Volume Textures
    Hardware Independent Z-Buffers
    Accumulation Buffers
    Stereo Rendering
    Point-size/Line-width Attributes
    Picking
    Parametric curves and surfaces

    Differences:
    OpenGL
    Cache Geometry: Display Lists
    System Emulation: Hardware not present
    Interface: Procedure calls
    Source Code: Sample

    DirectX
    Cache Geometry: Vertex Buffers
    System Emulation: Let app determine
    Interface: COM
    Source Code: SDK Implementation

Opengl is harder to render and less forgiving.

thats why most choose DX to code games in.

    opengl still looks sweeter
