So let me tell you what happened recently, relocated to a new apartment and I transported all of my stuff with my car, my PC Case was placed standing up with all the components inside.

After I arrived at the destination and cabled everything... shock! GPU could no longer be detected, had a mini heart attack as the GPU is just 4months OLD (GTX 1060 6GB), and besides, I used the computer literally 1 hour before I left and everything was in working order, it couldn't be the GPU right ?

I moved the GPU in the second PCIE X16 slot and voila, everything works as it should ( the only problem being that the GPU is basically touching the sound card which is exactly underneath( and it kinda overheats)

Replugged the GPU in the first PCIE X16 slot that ive always used and it still doesnt work, question is, what on earth happened ? I didn't drive on offroad terrain or anything, I just simply don't understand what happened to that slot.

I guess it was SO HARD to take out GPU/ cooler.

A bump in the road happened, resulting in microcrack within your motherboard.

At very least you could have put the case on a side, and not vertically.

It wasn't hard at all and im not the lazy type, I just never image it would happen, lesson learned I guess ...

Nothing to do about the slot tho, right ?

Any GPU has weight to it, not sure which model you have (feel free to link it) But I assume it has 2-3 fans on it + large heatsink.

Even if you screw it super well to the back of your case, any card has a tiny bit of sag due to weight. Some more, some less. When you move in a car any vibration / sagging gets worse, for the rest you get an idea. Even if you think it was a fine smooth ride, one tiny bump and that's enough to damage it.

Try reseating the mobo, push faulty PCI-E up a bit, then put pressure with your finger on it from right side to the left one. Maybe that will seat it back somehow, but I wouldn't count on it.

Other than that, try your sound card in the faulty PCI-E, maybe only part of it got damaged.

You can heat the solder on the pci-e slot pins and then push it down

    Just use a hairdryer

Always lay your case on the side when transporting.

    That's the least possible stress.

    Yeah lesson learned I guess..

Back with some news, placed the GPU in the first slot again and tried moving it back and forth while making sure it stays put by screwing the bolt, fan turns on but it's not detected..

Moving it forward and screwing the bolt again gives an interesting result, the pc doesnt even boot windows, turns on for 3-4 seconds and then shuts down and restarts, that's one broken slot I guess...

    Heres some media:

Guess you can move sound card above GPU now

Its an Asus Xonar D2/PM, it uses a PCI slot, ive no other PCI slots to distant it away from the GPU except the broken PCIE slot :(

Is your motherboard still under warranty?

Nah, although an exceptional motherboard, it should belong in a museum by now, bought it in 2011 along with my i5 2500K

Sorry about the loss of the slot. I'm sure we've all made costly mistakes at one time or another (I once ripped a PCIe slot right off the board, LOL).

My friend once sneezed onto a mobo when he was cleaning it from the dust, apparently that was enough to short something on it. Oh the irony...
