I've been waiting for fermi and i'm not that impressed. I found here in Romania the 480 for 615 euro and the 470 for about 415 euro. I can get the 5870 Vapor-x for 400 euro. So what should i do ? I don't have the money for the 480 , between 470 and 5870 i'd get the simple 5870 , the vapor-x would kill it for sure, so should i get the vapor-x wait for fermi to go down in price ? Some kind advice please.

Go for 5870 if you are not stuck with NVidia. Price is so much better then 480.

480 Rocks in frames and max setting. And 5870 is better then 470. your decission if wanne cough up more $$ for it.

I was thinking that the 5870 vapor-x is a good deal too since its clocked 875 and 5000. But i never had an ati card except the hd 2600xt in my laptop. Do you think the 5870 vapor-x is equal to a 480 in performance ?

It won't be equal, but it will be close enough to make very little difference in most games. Taking into account that the 480 would cost him €200 more and he is on a budget, it's a no brainer. Compared to his current card, the 5870 is going to blow him away.

So the vapor-x... is it future-proof or is the gtx more futureproof?

i know i might be annoying but it's a lot of money and salaries i put into this computer and i want to be done, and the video card is my final piece.

The GTX480 is no more future proof than the 5870

I wouldn`t talk about future proof when we talk about a card that runs just a couple degrees below thermal throttling by design.

Looks like 5870 Vapor-x is better price/performance all the way.

I love how people haven't even own a gtx 480 or 470 nvidia card yet, but yet people are putting the card down lol.

Omg the general there is some common sense in there after all! But serioulsy you have a point.

But it does seem like these new cards are hot/noisy/overpriced. That's my take on it but I agree I couldnt be 100 percent sure unless I owned one.

Not for me. It's a fail for me but not a major one as perf is good but let down massively in other areas.

What I have also seen on this forums is certain members who are trying to sugar-coat fermi by clever distraction from the basic facts.

    1. Hot 2. 6months late 3. Overpriced.

Well we understand what you are saying General, but this time it looks to be the truth about Fermi.

It's another FX line repeat, just in a different way.

Although I actually sorta liked my FX 5700 Ultra, I'm not going to go the route of the lesser again when I can have better for less $$$$.

From the benchmarks that I've seen, they seem to perform mostly the same at resolutions of 1920x1200 and below. Above that, the 480 starts to win in fps. Personally, I'm looking into ATI for my next system.

I'm going to be different kid and vote for GTX470.

Vapor X is not massively overclock cars, just a bit higher clocks than normal 5870.

470 is warm because fan did not speed up as much as it should have. Will be fixed with newer drivers. Noise: http://guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-470-480-review/13
470 also overclocks quite well. http://guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-470-480-review/34

It eats a bit more voltage than 5870, but it's not that huge difference (idle and furmark).

Performance and price are similar to 5870.

gotta agree with you, right now the 470 is the most logical one to get.

if the OP cares about "physx" then he should get a 470 and forget about the 480. if he don't give a **** about it, then he should go with ati.

grrr, can bfg announce their cards already.
