Hi to all, i just wondering what's the best card for play games like battlefield 3, i have a gtx 580 but i can easy sell it for a hd 7970 directcu 2 top, my questions are: 1) Are drivers good or bad like in hd5000 series? (i had 2 hd 5870 in cross, and i had very very bad experience.). Nvidia are so bad in drivers now with the trd problems. 2) I have read that hd 7970 can't manage good min fps in games like battlefield 3 and i don't want take a card give to me worst min fps than my gtx 580, so it's that true? Very thanks for helping and sorry my bad english.
Your English is better than my Italian that's for sure What resolution do you game at? If you're at 1080p on a relatively low spec machine then I'd say it's not worth so much money to upgrade from 580. If you have a mega fast machine, game at high resolution and have the money to spend then sure
Hi! So, i switched from a GTX580 TwinFrozr II/OC to 7970 and i can personally tell you that all of my computer's stability issues were gone (definitely due to nVidia drivers), including the "driver has stopped responding". I'm now running BF3 with everything on ultra and maxxed out and i can't get a single stutter in the game. Have the card OC'd to 1125/1575 (the february 14 drivers, got them from AMD drivers section on this forum). Haven't tried other drivers since i'm so happy with these. So i'd honestly say: GO FOR THE DEAL!!!!!! You will be much happier swapping the 580 for 7970. Hope i've been of help, Cheers!
I play 1920x1080 my machine is: i7 950 oc to 3.7 ghz 12 giga ram 1333 7-7-7-18 motherboard asus p6t deluxe v2 500 gb hard drive I have read that min fps is worst on hd 7970... so i'm thinking about it...
We've already told you....the 7970 20-30% better. It has better temperatures, better OC, less power consumption. Post the link where did you read about the 580 having better min fps.
The 7970 is better than the 580 in BF3. That was the only reason i 'upgraded' I had a 580 3Gb clocked at 900mhz, my current 7970 at 1260mhz gets about 10-15 fps more on crucial minimum frames. However having said this the 580 3gb @ 900mhz was the same if not faster than the 7970 at stock in this game. But OC'g the 7970 brings it to life as we all know !!!
wait for gk104 guess the reviews will be out by monday. that could trounce both cards in bf3 tbh and possibly be cheaper.
and I do not see any point in putting up a bench at 2560 unless the OP is running at that reso, common knowlege a 1.5gb 580 is going to run out of v memory vs a 3gb card. gk104 is supposedly coming out in 2 and 4gb flavors so vram will not be a factor
I had no drivers problem with my 5850. I think the problem you had was related to crossfire. The gigabyte windforce looks very cool.
I've always felt that NVIDIA made better drivers but the benchmark clearly shows it's slightly behind. Jamal M. Saleh, Lynn, MA
A 5970 also screams in this game. I just discovered that everything ultra and textures high plus 2x msaa with post aa off then vsync enabled really smooths it out. Don't know why vsync smooths it out but it works much better with it on when using msaa. Always a solid 60fps no drops.
Amd's driver r lot better and optimised since 10.11 .. 7970 is the fastest single gpu so far, but u should wait for kepler, lets see what it brings on the table.
I had used a GTX580 for awhile and thought the drivers were not nearly as stable as AMD's. I switched to a 6970 and had a much better experience and then recently upgraded to a 7970 and have been really impressed with it. The 7970 handles every game I have played and Ultra settings @ 1080p without a problem and the drivers have been 100% stable. I mostly play BF3 and it has made a huge difference in game play and total performance.
If you are choosing between the HD 7970 and GTX 580, HD 7970 hands down is the winner. More memory, 28nm, new technology, the IQ is amazing on these cards. Official drivers are solid for the cards, especially Single GPU's. Even in Crossfire I can OC to 1100/1500 with stock fan settings without a temp issue.
