Logic Nine is currently working on an indie open-world Cyberpunk RPG, called The NOTHING.
The game takes place in a dystopian Los Angeles, in the year 2108 and its story is centered around the PXL Corporation and the unstoppable control they have over the world, the mistakes they made and the terrible horrors that are uncovered about their operations.

Yager aims to release the game at the end of 2018 and below you can find its key features.

    • A new Frontier: Explore the world of Fortuna III – a hostile, beautiful new world, full of fortune, alien life, and other players looking to take its riches.
    • Storm: The cycle leaves only a narrow window of opportunity – stay too long, and you will be trapped on the planet.
    • Pacting: Players can meet on the surface of Fortuna III and join uneasy alliances with one another as they complete contracts
    • Black Market: Players have a wide arsenal of weapons and gear available to them, all with different playstyles, that can be purchased during a match
    • Crafting: Players can spend their precious credits on creating new gear to take into the next match
    • Quests: Shooting may give you an edge – but the best prospectors are those who can take on dangerous jobs for factions during a match
    • Customization: A wide selection of gear that players progress through, tailoring their character to their individual playstyle, with more options regularly added

AMD crowed about the performance improvements delivered by its game ready driver for Strange Brigade, released last week. The Radeon and Ryzen maker said it worked closely with Rebellion to drive next gen API support with Vulkan and DirectX 12.

Strange Brigade offered multi-GPU scaling in DirectX 12 and Vulkan on the day of release but AMD is particularly proud of the Vulkan implementation.
“The Vulkan API substantially reduces ‘API overhead’, the background work a CPU does to interpret what a game asks of the hardware.
Enabling meaningful features, performance, and image quality, Vulkan exposes GPU hardware features that wouldn’t ordinarily be accessible through OpenGL,”
wrote Anna Fieger on the Radeon Gaming Blog.

The good news for players of Strange Brigade on modern hardware doesn’t stop there.
AMD also worked with Rebellion on implementing Async Compute in the new game. You can see in the chart above that this gives a worthwhile fps boost on the Radeon RX Vega 56 (8GB) running in 4K resolutions.

It will be interesting to see how many future games will come with support for the likes of Vulkan/DX12 multi-GPU and DX12 Async Compute.

DICE to Dial Back Ray-tracing Eye-candy in Battlefield V to Favor Performance

EA-DICE, in an interview with Tom's Hardware, put out some juicy under-the-hood details about the PC release of "Battlefield V."
The most prominent of these would be that the commercial release of the game will slightly dial back on the ray-tracing eye-candy we saw at NVIDIA's GeForce RTX launch event demo.
DICE is rather conservative about its implementation of ray-tracing, and seems to assure players that the lack of it won't make a tangible difference to the game's production design, and will certainly not affect gameplay (eg: you won't be at a competitive disadvantage just because a squeaky clean car in the middle of a warzone won't reflect an enemy sniper's glint accurately).

"What I think that we will do is take a pass on the levels and see if there is something that sticks out,"
said Christian Holmquist, technical director at DICE.
"Because the materials are not tweaked for ray tracing, but sometimes they may show off something that's too strong or something that was not directly intended. But otherwise we won't change the levels-they'll be as they are. And then we might need to change some parameters in the ray tracing engine itself to maybe tone something down a little bit," he added.
Throughout the game's levels and maps, DICE identified objects and elements that could hit framerates hard when ray-tracing is enabled, and "dialed-down" ray-tracing for those assets. For example, a wall located in some level (probably a glass mosaic wall), hit performance too hard, and the developers had to tone down its level of detail.

At this time, only GeForce RTX series users have access to the ray-tracing features in Battlefield V, and can turn them off to improve performance.
There are no DXR fallbacks for people with other graphics cards (GeForce GTX or Radeon). "…we only talk with DXR. Because we have been running only NVIDIA hardware, we know that we have optimized for that hardware.
We're also using certain features in the compiler with intrinsics, so there is a dependency. That can be resolved as we get hardware from another potential manufacturer.

But as we tune for a specific piece of hardware, dependencies do start to go in, and we'd need another piece of hardware in order to re-tune."
DICE appears to be open to AMD sending hardware with its own DXR feature-set implementation, so it could add it to Battlefield V at a later stage.

    Battlefield V

Electronic Arts, Criterion Games and DICE have revealed the first official details about Battlefield 5’s upcoming battle royale mode, Firestorm. Firestorm promises to elevate battle royale by bringing in the best of what Battlefield is known for as it will mix a shrinking playing field with trademark Battlefield elements such as team play, powerful vehicles, and destruction.

Here are the key features of Firestorm:

    • Wage war in a ring of fire that slowly shrinks the battlefield – don’t get trapped
    • Fight to be the last infantry squad standing of 64 players in 16 squads
    • The game-changing addition of Battlefield vehicles lets you wipe out unsuspecting squads with a tank or drive to survive with transport vehicles
    • Work together as a squad to secure objectives that grant better and rare gear
    • Clash on the biggest Battlefield map to date
    • Transform the map with Destruction
    • Feel battle royale brought to life with stunning Battlefield graphics and audio
    • Matches are tied to your Company and Battlefield V progression
Firestorm will feature 16 squads of up to four players and will have several types of Objectives. These will operate similar to those found in the iconic Conquest mode, except some will be found at fixed locations and some at random, with varying types of supplies, weapons, and vehicles.

And finally, Firestorm will feature the largest map to date in a Battlefield game!
