Possibly, but if anything that would benefit Nvidia as their OpenGL implementation had historically been much better than AMD's.

I just dont see Doom as a game that pushes things visually, it's a 1080/60 console game?

"We were fine with the PR around async compute providing insane increases for our h/w but then the reality hit us."

    What developer authored that slide?

And we always knew the large asynchronous compute gains were going to be on consoles. With a fixed platform, you can optimize to a degree you simply cannot on PC..

The slower CPUs on consoles help contribute to that as well.

5-10% isn't bad, but hardly the game changing thing people were making out, that slide also suggests it a matter of when it it will be fixed on Nvidia, not if.

I/O Interactive, in the talk about Hitman's DX12 implementation.

That's not really happening either. From whatever was shown on GDC this year async gains on consoles are 2-4 times lower than on PC GCN h/w. Which actually makes sense if you think about how async compute operate.

How did you get Gamework's from that???

Anyway, it's Hitman so an AMD game.

No, it should be left open so we can see how this develops.

    This is a mission critical topic for Nvidia and I want to see which way Nvidia goes;

    1. Implement working hardware in Pascal, hw+sw for Maxwell2.0

    or

    2. Don't implement it in pascal and go for brute-force approach. AC not implemented in drivers for Maxwell2.0.

not going to happen, whatever is in Pascal was developed yrs ago ,they can't change it.
AC is blown out of proportion, as far as Nvidia HW goes as of now.
It really doesn't need it and if it does get enabled will yield little improvement (that is a good thing).
Shows maxwell is well optimized in performance.

If a studio like DICE does a DX12 port with AC where nvidia <<< AMD, then I would be worried.

Till then it just looks like a DX12 teething problem, similar to dx10/9 -> dx11
Remember the first metro 2033? How by switching through apis you'd lose performance for no apparent reason?

I am amazed this thread is still going, from what I have seen and read about DX12 and the new API it is still being tweaked and updated and drivers are still being tweaked and devs are trying to figure it all out so this thread is completely pointless maybe when we have several DX12 titles that work we can have a constructive conversation regarding the new API and it,s features.
Async is a single feature and a small part of a game it is not a whole game.

Do they though? If it's not beneficial to performance why use it?

These are my benchmark results at 1440p CRAZY preset, with and without 4xMSAA, on the last BETA of the game. I'm about to test release version right now

In the ashes of the singularity performance reviews in early february the reviewers had access to an Async On/Off option and performance decreased with it on.

I am also of the idea that asynchronous execution is working currently, I just assumed the Ashes implementation is engineered to favor AMD hardware, it's very clear it should be used differently for different IHVs.

Even with the performance degradation from async, overclocking overcomes that :p
