This has the potential to bring a lot of triple A title console only games over to the PC market. This is the most important part of all this IMO. How soon or how long it would take to see it depends on how important the PC market is to them IMO.

I don't see how this will bring any AAA console only games to the PC, they are console only as Sony/MS paid for them.

Developing for DX, Mantle and now possibly OpenGL is more like to chase developers away, not encourage them.

I agree, it's just another API end of the day, really think developers going put extra effort into games so they run on mantle

Sony is using OpenGl and there is no way in Hell they will let their first party exclusives head for pc. They want you to buy a ps4.

Mantle is not about bringing exclusive games to the PC, where did you get that from? The speculation is atm that it could help porting console games, if in fact it is the same low level api as the xbone uses.

From the post above mine that suggested this could help to do such a thing.

I love the idea in theory, in practice I'm not convinced many devs will spend the money supporting more than one api.

I am looking forward to how it turns out with the upcoming Frostbite games though.

Not that simple and NS actually encourage Mantle creation because it's not only about bringing console games easier to supported part of PC market, but to get games back to consoles from PC easily.

    Environmental detail?

I'm more interested in the 4k resolution performance.

its open, any one can use it and the source code.

However, it only works on CGN hardware.

Common knowledge that needs to be stated in this thread I guess <shrug>
This has been said since it was introduced in the GPU13 event (or whatever it's called).

In any case, there is news that Ninja Gaiden Z will get a PC release in 2014.
    http://www.dsogaming.com/news/yaiba-ninja-gaiden-z-coming-to-the-pc-in-early-2014/

When was the last time that console game was released on PC since this gen of consoles? I don't recall a time it ever was.

I understand we will all have opinions. But to me, the writing is on the wall. And it looks to me that PC gamers will see more console exclusive games. Be it directly or indirectly to Mantle :).

Here is what I gathered about the series:
So, I don't recall this particular console game ever being allowed on the PC. Just a thought...

    Sidenote:
Isn't the next gen consoles to be released later this year though???

You can't blame AMD for this, what did being open ever get them??

Nvidia features were only available to Nvidia owners, while AMD's were available to everyone, hardly fair if Nvidia users were getting the best of both worlds.

Saying that being gcn onwards only will severely limit how much Mantle is supported.

It would be silly to do otherwise though. This isn't limited to just PC, AMD has won the console market. Something unprecedented in years past. So that would give them leverage.

We need to know the "technical" reason why it only works on GCN hardware. For all we know, AMD is simply saying "we only did the coding for it on GCN hardware". In other words, it could be possible on older hardware, if someone wanted to put the effort towards making it happen?

Edit: Just saw the Tweet, hmm...
