Installed 11.6WHQL Today. No problem at all!

    My System:

    Asus Rampage III Extreme
    Core i7 930@4.2
    6 GB Corsair Dominator 1600
    SSD intel 80 @ WIndows 7 64-bit
    Sapphire 6950 Crossfire @Unlocked to 6970 GPU:900 Mem:1400
Monitor: LG 23" DVI to DVI connection
    Sound:Asus D2X
    Power: Chieftec 1200 Watt

I played a lot of games and everything seems to be perfect.Mouse lag is gone(not that i care,it wasnt a serious problem at all)

For me its the best driver for my Setup.

Why dont you try to connect with DVI to DVI?
Maybe the problem is related to HDMI connection as thatguy91 mentioned.

Probably, because I am on HDMI. I think I should switch to DVI and try again.

I don't think it's related to HDMI, because I'm two DVI->VGA adapter and one DP->VGA, no HDMI all.

I'm also doing it on a clean install, only chipset/Sata/Audio drivers installed, but I did do windows update with all the security updates

so uninstalled 11.5 RC5, installed 11.6 half way through screen goes blank - Reboot BSOD
booted safe mode, roll backed to standard windows drivers boot fine, install 11.4 without any problems think my 11.5RC's are on my storage. but surly there's something wrong with 11.6, or my pc somewhere.

will do some testing later off out now, i want this damn drivers on, even tho they probably wont effect my 5770 much. :bang:

Same here, BSOD at first 11.6 install

    (Sapphire 5850, Seven x64, gigabyte P55-UD3, Core i7 860)

Other tries didn't give me bsod but a message saying the device/driver isn't working.

More than system specs ... perhaps an antivirus problem?

    I use NOD32

(not being at home , i can't make further tests )

For my not being affected systems, I use Win7 HP SP1 (64-bit) and NOD32 (64-bit) on both.

At this point, things that don't seem to be the cause of the BSOD :
    • Unlocked 6950s.
    • Currently used display connector.
    • Currently used antivirus.
    • Windows Update.
    • PSU.
Feel free to add anything else; I didn't exactly read the newer posts after my last reply.

Installed it, but didn't BSOD anything on my system.
Maybe it's because HDMI isn't being used on my system, but then again the OP doesn't use HDMI neither.

i do have ATI HDMI audio disabled. but this hasn't effected any driver installation bar 11.6, i do remember however when i installed 11.5's it re-enabled the ATI HDMI audio and set that as my primary output.

as for the Anti virus, i use MSE.

    cooling : everything on air
    CAP version : 11.5

I used Von Dach method :
    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=332395

    I used his process.

    Hope that it can help

    PS : I forgot one thing :
CCC.exe and MOM.exe are always down, I mean I removed them from start up and if I have to modify something, I run CCC but kill processes afer this.

I always use his way of cleaning before any driver installation, but using TwL's (Genetix) cleaner.
In any case, CCC.exe & MOM.exe shouldn't be the problem since I always have those running, though I don't know what'd be the impact on different system configurations.

    agreed with you.

Twl scripts are great and functional too, and I use them sometimes (in fact, it depend on if I remember where I put them in my HDD :) )

The instant BSODS on different configurations and the above issue makes you wonder what the purpose of WHQL actually is! considering much of the time non-WHQL drivers have been proven to be better, and not just for display drivers...

I had similar problems like this with 11.2's and when i was using SmartDoctor at the time. I had to set the SD service to a delayed startup to avoid BSOD when loading into windows. I now also always edit the drivers files to disable ULPS. Seemed when the drivers were still loading while also another program trying to apply overclocking profiles, boom BSOD.

I believe this problem has something to do with the power states getting screwed around along with a driver glitch possibly. I no longer use SD to overclock but when i did the BSODS stopped with select newer drivers so it seems to be a problem with a few different driver suites.

And in all honestly I have less issues NOT using any cleaning software where as before I would do it all the time for whatever reason thinking it was needed.

I know this may not apply to a lot of you and I'm not trying to say SD is the problem but using it as an example of what was causing it for me. Just sharing my experiences with this particular problem.

And yes it was most prevalent with CFX setups.

I tried several installation methods with 11.6, all of them and even the official way to do it causes BSOD.
AntiVirus protection and RivaTuner + Radeon Pro where completely disabled for all tries.
Tried only driver as well, which gives the exact same result, BSOD after reboot.

Strange how some of you get it after a reboot, where as mine is during installation, when the screen goes blank on other drivers mine just goes blank then BSOD, I've emailed AMD Customer support, see what reply i get.

That looks like the fight Between Ati and Nvidia, do you have an Nvidia Chipset?
