We test and review Radeon R9-290 Crossfire, obviously we'll do the standard benchmark run but also will look at Ultra HD performance and FCAT Frametime measurements. The boards used are reference. Ov...

Looks...glad amd is getting some spotlight on these cards.

Will however be sticking with my 780 sli.

I still think a well overclocked 780 beats out the 290 as it appears to not clock well.

The 290 looks like a fantastic card in CF. Especially for the price. This is great for competition. Again, too bad about the heat. Great review, Hilbert.

    Hitman - 5% slower than 7990
    Tomb Raider - 10% faster
    MOH - 14% faster
    Bioshock - 6% faster
    BF3 - 2% faster
    Metro - 14% faster
    Crysis 3 - 20% faster

On average, almost 9% faster. Pretty meh, tbh. Single card is great, but for anyone on a 7990, 7970 cf or 7950 cf, it's quite underwhelming. Especially since 7970 cf and 7950 cf can overclock quite well.

I would happily sell out sli or cf to go back to a single card solution that provided the same or even slightly more performance, but as of currently, I dont see any games worth the price of admission that required that investment.

I don't get it. I was expecting this to obliterate a 7990, but looking at those charts it's only marginally faster.

Very likely driver related. I think newly released cards are not as optimized for SLI/CF performance *initially* as I believe the driver teams are fully focused on single card performance at first. With subsequent driver releases, multi-GPU performance improves. Thats the pattern I've observed with new card releases over last few generations.
