Oh ic... you know I was thinking about this too and worried the 3dmarkxx might not reflect the real gaming performance...but most current reviews for 7900 series cards don't include 6 series, I have no idea how big the difference is.

Nice ManicOne... This is a very good explanation... So really upgrading now for a new Videocard is useless, unless you have the $$$.

Going from 6600gt to 6800gs or 7600gt IS quite an improvement. BF2 went from all medium to all high with 4xAA, i consider that an improvement enough to upgrade!!!

My 6800gs was only $150 at newegg, so why spend $200 on a 7600gt if its similar performance, plus my evga 6800gs CO overclocks to 480/1100 with no sweat, it can go alot higher.....

3dmark is just a score, look what happens to your 6600gt's in a real game

My 6800gs will outrun your SLI setup!!!!

Could that not just be because softshadows are enabled, dont forget the 6600GT is 128bit so if softshadows were turned off would the 2x6600GT speed up?

i just maxed out all the settings in Nvidia control panel, and maxed out all the settings in BF2 and its was still smooth in 1280x, does everyone still use fraps or is there a better tool now? ill try and get some FPS shots for you at these settings.

Ok i just used the trial version of fraps and the lowest fps for the settings i mentioned above was 16fps when looking down sniper scope, highest was 61-63, and it was like 40-45 fps running round playing the game, i then came out of game set the control panel to defaults and went back in to BF2, all settings in BF2 were maxed with res of 1280x960, and the lowest fps was 51 the highest was 116fps while flying in plane and it was like 70-80fps while running round playing.

So very very good fps for a mid range card.

i took some screenies but cos fraps is trial version i could only save em as bitmap images and Photobucket reduced the pics to a very small res like 325x325 or somthing like that cos of the size of the files.

thats about the frame rates I get with my 6800gs CO overclocked 480/1100. Im running all high and 4xAA, but i think its 1240 x something.....

You need these frame rates when u get into a 64 player server and get gernade spammed or artillery when theres all 60 people on the screen and it will go down to 30 or so.....

What do you mean by max out settings in Nvidea panel?? u mean AA and AF??

I always leave those by application controlled.

Sounds like your 7600gt is a great card, but wouldnt be an "upgrade" for me, especially at the extra $50 it cost over my 6800gs, thats all im saying....

I stuck AA to 8xS and 16xAF all optimisations turned off. Gamma correction & Transparent AA set to supersampling. Image settings to HighQuality.

That may be true, but is it really running at 8xq AA or is it just doing the 4x that bf2 states?? Same with the 16xAF, is it even doing this?? Just because you set it there, doesnt mean that BF2 will do it.....

Yes you can tell that Transparent AA is working from facing some railing and fencing, 16xAF is defo working cos if you look up a road or dirt path you can clearly see the tread marks as far as you can see instead of it going a little blurry 10-20 virtual metres....( Virtual metres are you having that? ) and with the impact in performance im confident everything i turned on is working.

i know where your coming from though.
