Intel yesterday also had its keynote, and as a bit of a surprise showed gameplay from Destiny 2 on its first Xe based GPU. However, there were no technical details about the DG1 chip shared....

I know its a mobile but performance seems crappy. Destiny 2 is optimized to run decent even on older hardware.

Agree it run superfine on GTX 950 and even on RX 550... but of course, for laptop/mobile it is way better than actual Intel production.

Disappointing, but, I already said in another thread that if they really had something they'd be showing it off big-time. That's not the case and it's ended-up being a much more low-key reveal.

I still fully expect no desktop versions this year.

Why people expect a 1st gen product to wipe the floor, or even step up head to head with specialised company's products of decades, is beyond me.

All this shows is, they probably have engineering samples with drivers. Not much more, no settings known, no res, no fps...

    Hahaha you mad bro?

Because it's a difficult matter and invention doesn't always work out brilliantly and perfectly on first try.
Because hardware design is an evolving process.
Because improvement only comes from learning from mistakes.
Because no master was born but trained to become one.
That's why it's silly to expect to do better than everyone else on first try. But I see you didn't get what I tried to say, or that principle is new to you.

People ware expecting Intel just compete with nvidia and amd right of the bat.

Im expecting drivers to be a mess even if the hardware is capable.

No i was simply saying that people did not expect the first iteration to be perfect. People like to crap on what is not top notch and brag stuff like `Company X is not able to deliver a product as good as the product Y i just bought` and they like to set immaginary goals for hardware vendors and then complain that they did not reach them.

Sometimes when the product is fine at iteration X, then is not priced correctly also.

This^^ It´s going to be a while until Intel is really competitive against AMD and Nvidia. I just hope they are on this project for the long run.

Other than that i am a macbook user. I do not see apple transitioning to AMD soon.
So if i will get a new macbook with a better intel GPU i will be happy anyway.

It was wishful thinking. People were so sick and tired of Nvidia's dominance (and price gouging) that they were looking for any alternative that would provide more competition. I always thought it was far-fetched, especially since it's Intel, who's tried dGPUs before and failed.

Another reason is Raja. They thought his experience with AMD (and vast Intel resources) would help Intel build a competitive product.

To be fair, they NEED to be able to do that, or they will get no buy-in from manufacturers. Even if they put Xe Mobile on a package like they did with the Hades Canyon chip last year, if it isn't cost effective then they will get no bites, just like they did then. Intel isn't known for sticking with a strategy when they aren't making money on it, so if by next gen they aren't selling chips, then this whole thing will go the way of StrongArm and the Atom Z-series.

They don't need to be able to do that, intel has the resources at hand to crawl up on them in increments.

Intel doesn't need other manufacturers to produce graphics cards for them. Intel is capable of doing that themselves. Intel also doesn't need to be able to go "toe to toe" with NVidia and AMD with their first iteration. They simply need to have a competent product that's priced properly.

Last time I checked, Intel doesn't make laptops, which is what this article is about.

You did read the article, right?
