Yesterday we reported about a 5GB version GeForce GTX 1060, well it's already been spotted it seems. The Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 5GB Windforce OC in specific. The card features dual-fan Windforce... Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 5GB Windforce OC Spotted
I don't really get this, can dropping 1GB really save much money? I'd have though the costs in creating another SKU would pretty much eat up any cost saving. Unless it's to get an nVidia card to compete cost wise with the RX570 for mining?
Cant be with the different bus width. The 5GB bastard here is 160bit vs 192bit.. The GTX 465 had matching specs of the GTX 470, and almost everyone that I ever saw that unlocked had all of the memory chips too. At least this wont be the 9600 GS/GS0 crap nvidia pulled. There were 384mb,512mb,768mb, and even 1GB versions of those cards. And all had difference bus widths too. 192 for 384/768, 256 for 512mb, and 128bit DDR2 for 1GB. Best part is nvidias site only list 384 and 512 version.
GTX465 had lower bus width and less memory, i had 1 unlocked fully to 470 specks. had to lower memory speed 50mhz to make it stable.
i do not think the 1 gb is what benefits em here ... most likely they had chips that for some reason could not work with the full bus width up to specs ...they could not use em also on the 3gb version since the bus width is wider ...so at the very end ... they had chips that they could not use ...now they sell most likely a bit more than the 1060 3gb ...so at the end it is very profitable for em .... well at least thats what i suspect i do not have any info from the inside or something ...and i do not believe they will take full functional 1060 192 bit full cuda core cards and sell em on a slightly lower tier
