Mantle using up all video memory

Here is the AMD Issue report sent in 2/2/14,

Catalyst 14.1 Beta 1.6 Driver on three 7970's. Graphic settings in BF4 running MANTLE were run on low/med/high at res 3840x800, at no time was vsync or AA enabled. Game runs fine for a period of time, after 1 hour it seems the video memory is used up and fps goes from 200+ to 57 and then down to 17fps when the game is unplayable. Acts like when a OS runs out of memory and starts page filing. A friend with trifire 7970's but on a single monitor experienced the same but shorter time frame as i did. After reboots it was back to 200 fps then degrade as before.

now ive noticed with my 7970 after playing 10m or more
MEGA FPS Drops with mantle starts, and even the hole computer momentarily freezes
like the CPU is maxed. (game shows 20% CPU load)

Driver is not working on my i7 4930k with Quad R9 290x.

Doesn't work on single monitor 1440p.

Fresh Windows 8.1 Install

-Reformat with fresh install and tried 13.11 beta 9.5 with no issue.

 

Anyone else having problem with crysis 3 multiplayer on this driver? For me it hangs weird way after loading map, on beginning of match.

HD7790@windows 8.1.

This forced me to revert back to 13.30.

 

Proof as in a video. I wont just take his word on it.

 

how do you check cpu load with mantle? I can't make MSI afterburner work on it.

 

Someone noticed the brutal increase in VRAM when in mantle mode??? mine is consuming almost all 3gb?¿?¿?¿?..WTF????...with mantle I get constant (every second) drops to 20's fps...I dont know what to do...all 7900 users with good performance could you please say what or how do you get it???...

can't see cpu load i sow it when game was minimized

but in game console you can get an idea
use console command Perfoverlay.DrawGraph 1

BTW MSI AB OSD is working fine with Mantle on!

update: worked fine before but now it does not ..

MB: MSI 880GMA-E35
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333MHz
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition OC 2GB GDDR5

Battlefield 4 Single Player tests (Ultra settings, VSYNC OFF):
DX11: 42 ~45 fps
Mantle: 53 ~61 fps (+-31.4%)

Battlefield 4 MP with 64 players test:
DX11: 41 ~ 44 fps
Mantle: 54 ~60 fps (+- 34,5%)

But... poor image quality.

I will wait for certified optimized driver version for Radeon HD 7000. I don't know if this is a bug or a trick.

In Oxide's Star Swarm Strees Test, I take 63,96% in Follow test (Extreme quality) and 153,43% gain in RTS test.

 

i did the ddu uninstaller and went into safemode i still missing options in catalyst control panel,,tried it 2 times anyone i dont know what im doing wrong..thnkz.

well i get till tesselations then there is another option i dont see? amd in the game i dont see any option to turn mantle on,,,its frame pacing...i dont have that

 

i just uninstalled the drivers now i still havent installled them yet,,used ddu uninstaller in safemode then im in windows now. its frustrating.

 

I think frame pacing option is only for multi gpu so...

I gotta say it, I'm disappointed. The IQ of BF4 with mantle is about 30% less than with DX.

Also, I've only gained about 15fps. Since i can already run the game at 90+ on ultra, trading 15 fps for lower image quality isn't a good trade.

Maybe it's BF4, no way to really know. We'll see with Thief :/

 

There's definitely a correlation between fps drops and CPU usage. I get drops every time CPU usage goes to 100% or close (only on mantle). Examples:









This last one was a scene where fps were locked at 30 (I first thought it was a video) and then for some reason CPU usage dropped from 100 to apparently 50 or so and fps went up to 80 (I locked them at that number). Pretty weird stuff.
