I just checked out the news section of guru3D and it shows the AGP version of 7800 GS. Over the Christmas I just ordered the 6800 OC from the net. Doh. If I knew, I probably would have waited a bit until 7800 AGP comes out to get a cheaper 6800GT or something. lol

    Anyway, here is the ariticle

I must admit that one of my NVIDIA contacts already softly hinted towards a new GeForce AGP product and I did expect it to be the 7800 GS AGP. Today Hexus posted some info regarding this matter also.

Seems that core NVIDIA partners are set to inject a healthy dose of ‘customer centric’ love into those of us still running AGP mainboards with the introduction of an AGP 8x variant of its GeForce 7800GS.

The AGP variant of the NVIDIA GeForce 7800GS seems set to feature a core GPU frequency of 350MHz, a frequency dictated by the fact that it’s, unsurprisingly, a PCIe to AGP bridged design.

However, despite this the forthcoming NVIDIA GeForce 7800GS AGP is believed to bring more grunt to your gaming than last years GeForce 6800 Ultra AGP, and we think NVIDIA and its partners should be commended for giving its customers the choice of another upgrade path, which is very likely giving a large part of the market just what it wants.

Let's think eVGA and XFX and say ... the 2nd of February ?

In other news it seems that some roadmaps have been floating on the web which show of the Geforce 7300 graphic card. It’s a new card based on a new 90 nanometre design and separate sources confirmed the imminent arrival of this card.
There will be more than one flavour of the card and we know that the slower - and cheaper - ones will be limited to a 64-bit memory interface. The fastest ones will be capable of running 128-bit memory as well. The card still has only four pipelines and should be announced in February if not earlier. It is meant to replace Geforce 6200 at the lower-end, as you might imagine.

It seems that Nvidia plans to transition the whole range of its cards towards 90 nanometre this year.

Yeas, Ive already ordered a 6800GS for my new rig.

At least, this works very good and the 7800GS is for AGP and not for PCI-E...............yet

IF it is true, good news! A 6800 is almost impossible to get here.

You would be better of getting a 6800 secondhand and overclocking it as the 7800GS is not going to be cheap because of the pci-x to agp bridge expect something in the £250-300 range and it will not even come close performance wise to a 7800GT!

Yeah it'll be between a 6800GT and 6800Ultra, which is why they stopped producing Ultra's. And because they were so incredibly expensive and so not as good as 7-series. Oh well I'm waiting for G80 lol.

Well, in the main page it says the 7800GS AGP will be faster than 6800 Ultra.

BTW, maybe the PCI-E version could have higher clocks.

For example the 350mhz core vs the 485 from my 6800GS compared to th 6800GS AGP.

I read somewhere that the 7800GS would have 16 pipes and 375 core. That is slower than a 6800Ultra...

LOL... a downgrade... hidden behind the 7800gs name... :D Interesting to see what will happen. ;)

LOL, because 6800 AGP is getting rare, that's why I ordered it quickly at the end of last year. I thought to myself if I don't upgrade, I will never be able to get a powerful AGP card. Then voila! 6800GS AGP from eVGA is in retail recently and we have the news of 7800GS AGP coming pretty soon. LOL

I always felt that they rushed out of AGP too fast anyways. Thats why I'm still happy with my XP3200+ It'll be at least another year before I go up to 64bit. Especially if this card comes out, why spend 300 for a 64bit proc and mobo plus 200-300 for a decent vid card, when I can spend 229 for a 6800GS or wait on the 7800 to comedown and still be able to play the new games.

anandtech has a preview of a 7800GS pci-e sample, running 16/6 on 350/1000, and in most benchmarks (save for maybe HL2) it easily beats out the x850xt, which is still superior to the 6800u right?

anyway, i feel the same, id be disapointed if the 7800GS would be nothing more then a 6800GT with an engine update to cinefx4.0 (like the 7300 is just an updated 6200, same speeds/config)

by the way, does anyone have an explanation why a pci-e bridge would force the card to run 350 mhz instead of 400? the only thing i can think of is that in order to offset the cost they need to save cash on other aspects

before complaining that it will be slower than 6800ultra, wait a bit before you get to know the full specs, like pipelines. and like drfreeze said, even with that core speed and pipes, it could beat 6800ultra, because 7 series has optimized pipes.
im also wondering why the bridge would limit core speed.

Its will probably be a bit faster when you remember that the pipes on the 7800 are more efficient than the ones on the 6800 series.

The only problem I can see with this card is its pricing.

Here in the Uk the AGP 6800gs goes for around £180 (source OCUK)

    The PCI-E 7800gt goes for around £205+ (source OCUK / Scan.co.uk)

The card won't be as fast as the gt yet still needs to be priced competively as otherwise it would be more financially viable just to upgrade now to pci-e if the card is more expensive than the 7800gt.

The X850XT being better then the 6800U is a tough call, in some games/test yep, in others no. Depends on a lot of factors and certainly isnt clear cut as iv found out first hand. :/

Anyway; hmm, maybe a last ditch upgrade for us AGP hangers on, but tbh I dunno, we'll have to see. If I do see some insane overclocks on the AGP version, I think i might be tempted though. :)

I think if you already have a 6800u or top end radeon there won't be much point the 7800GS. It would however be a good upgrade from say a FX series card or even from something like the 6600gt as long as the price is going to be right.

obviously, i might consider replacing my 6800, but only if the price is right, im gonna say.... 250 or so would be my price, and only if the card OCes nicely i think, but seeing how the gimped AGP 6800GS still runs for 260.... i highly doubt it

It would have to be seriously good for overclocking to uprade from a 6800GT though if the price was fair it would be a good move from a 6600GT, especially if it beats the 6800GT. I'll be waiting to the new 7900 series comes out I guess and then considering when I'll move to PCI-e. I want to wait for 7900 to come down in price though, imagine two of them in SLI. I gotta start saving 'cause it will probably take me 6 months or more to save up the dosh.

Naw man a 6800 is still a darn good card, any variant is great. The new cards may just be able to run latest games with 8xAA and 16xAF and have a bit higher frame rates. A 6800 should last a fair while yet, I'm darn happy with mine and I'm sure you'll be too ;-) If you put more memory in your system like 1.5GB-2GB sometime, you could run all the new games this year cranked right up with your new card.
