That missing shutdown button was one of the things that I found annoying when I tried Windows 8. A friend of mine, for whom I bought a laptop, found it impractical not to have such a button on the "home" screen.

I really don't know what M$ is thinking with their latest OS. The whole thing smells of "too little, too late" to me.

Has then been option to completely disable metro and or not install it yet? and working startmenu like win 7? that dont require me to go 3rd party to fix? if not MS can go scratch still

I use Start8 from Stardock(5$). It's good, it removes all charm bars, logins automatically to desktop. windows 7 start menu, disables windows 8 hotspots on screen and you can customize it.

Can do all the above too, and IMO feels much more part of 8.1 than other 3rd party replacements

Can do all that and more.

I just don't like when you need a 3rd party solution to fix a fundamental OS issue. The burden is also not on Microsoft in case an update breaks compatibility.

I like the improvements under the hood in Windows 8.x but I really do hope we'll get the option to avoid Metro completely. I also dislike how Microsoft hid the option to choose a local account.

Install with the ethernet cable unplugged so you do not have to sign in with an email address.

I tried both and have to say Start8 does not look or feel like I'm using a 3rd party app. Sometimes I forget I'm even using Windows 8.

Yep and if it is a Laptop do not enable the Wifi until your logged in.

Why would ne1 pay 2.99 for startmenu when classicshell is free and better! Oh ya I know why um better not say. I will only upgrade from windows 7 as my game os when I microsoft forces me to use a dx d3d that they will not support in windows 7. As for everything else I use a computer for I use linux. Anyways about update um oh ya bore bore bore more junk for the ignorant masses.

I was not a fan of using the 3rd party stuff either. I waited till BF4 released then just nutted up and put the dreaded OS on my PC. I have no real regrets, the performance gain was worth it and I also use classic shell. I guess if you are dead set on waiting for the actual return of the start menu, that's your call.

BF4 works fine now on Win7 with the latest patch and the 334 driver. I'm glad I stuck with it.

oh a day early birthday present.

but maybe they should change the release date seeing it the anniversary of the japan earthquake.

bad enough I was having some thoughts about how to cause an earth quake and then that happens......bad mood that day.

I really hope this service pack has a bunch of fixes for my old games, I could dual boot but preferred with a single OS. I will NOT give up Red Alert2 and Yuris Revenge.
