No. The one they showed at PDC with the updated taskbar is not even in the "beta" stages, it's still a milestone build. This version is available on the internet, if you know where to look.

    sigh...... everyone says that

first off, this time around there is most likely not going to any big visual changes

secondly, its still in ALPHA so when they make changes to the way things look it will most likely be in the beta stage

A few interface changes, I really like the new bootscreen, its simple, but looks nice.

I can't say much for the performance as I'm running it via virtual PC with a low speced VM.

But all MS OS betas look alot like their previous incarnations at this stage in the cycle, so no real suprises.

Never used vista, but decided to try the Win7 pre-beta thats out and about. Doesnt detect the creative soundcard. Downloaded vista 32 drivers SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_18_0004, and beta SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_18_0006. Still no luck. Doesnt like the OS.

Any heads up on the right approach to get sound heh?

So far I like this build. Windows update took care of just about all my hardware including my Audigy card. It does have a Vista feel a this point (few less security popups).

I am curious.....does this version of the OS have the supposed to be new file system. I think it was WinFS... ??? or is it still NTFS

Download accelerators are snake oil anyway, most only spilt the files up rather than accelerate any throughput.

I suspect maybe MS included better download management.

I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't leave the antiquated 32-bit version out. With the mainstream amount of RAM approaching 4GB, and with CPUs having bin 64bit for a very long time now, I think it's high time they took the leap of faith and published a 64bit only OS.

If you use Easy Install it does work. The tray icon process crashed on install, but it did install and all the drivers etc. works.

It is NTFS, but actually so is WinFS. The relational database features of WinFS is at the high level, the underlying low level file system used by WinFS is still NTFS.

Quite a few in fact, more then i was expecting. But you do have to look around, if your just sitting on the desktop then no not much new. But if you start digging in a bit you will find a lot of new stuff (big and small). Personally I'm pretty impressed with it so far.
