Ive had no issues up until last night when i reboot it gets stuck on the welcome screen and after a min or so the screen goes black. I thought it was the windows update i did a few days before so i rebooted in safe mode and did a system restore and it didnt make a difference. I can boot into safe mode with no problems. I tried another video card and it booted to desktop so i thought it was my GTX 480. I rebooted again with the working video card and the same thing happend WTF. I tried repairing the system with the options available when booting but it came up with no errors etc. I tried different ram unplugging my sound card nothing. After about another 20 boot attempts it got past the welcome screen and im afraid to reboot again. I havent changed any settings or downloaded any thing that might be a issue. I checked for virus and spyware and came up with nothing. All my temps seem fine i want to try to clock back to stock speed on my cpu but dont want to reboot. Ive had a stable overclock since the summer not to sure if this could be an issue. My ram is at stock speeds also.

Click start > In the search bar type: Event Viewer

Open event viewer and look in Windows Logs > System

Check for errors in there and post what you see - it sounds like either a hanging service or driver problem

eamonm: Is part of ESET NOD32

Spooler service is for the printer.

If you are not using NOD32, try running the removal tool, if you are, use the removal tool and reinstall it

For the print spooler error - Click start > type: services.msc

Find the print spooler service, and set it to delayed start until you find the real issue.

To attempt repair of any damaged system files you can open an elevated command prompt (Right click > Run as admin) and type:

    sfc /scannow

Let it scan, and reboot if it tells you it has repaired files

If it happens again i will look for the first error in the log. Thanks alot for your help.

This is typical of a oc system as yours being unstable. Put everything to stock speed again and I bet it will work fine. You said you had stable oc for a long time thus I would think maybe you need to redo your cpu thermal paste again and make sure and clean all your fans etc to make it stable again.

Sounds like his OC wasn't really stable....or he has damaged components...

Put everything back to stock settings.

Remove all memory except for one 2GB stick.

A friend of mine has the exact same problem after he installed the latest updates for Windows (released yesterday). He has the 64 bit edition of Windows 7.

EDIT - The laptop does not even want to boot with a Windows 7 DVD. Maybe this is another kind of problem.
