I am on a thight budget and I am considering what to buy a MSI FX 5200 or 512Mb more RAM (consider my system >>>>>).

I only play CS:S and older games like that no Doom 3 or anything. So I am wondering what is best for me SM 2.0 or better performance.

Please dont give me the "Don't change your card unless you are going for a 5700" I dont have money for that its either 5200 or 512 ram.

    definately 512mb of ram!!
THe FX5200 would be a performance downgrade from the card you have now and you wouldnt notice new dx9 effects since you said you play older games. I think the FX5200 runs in dx8 mode in half life 2 anyway just like your ti4800

My card is great I cant complain but I was wondering if it makes such a difference to have 1Gb of RAM.

the 5200 will prolly run twice as slow, and yes 1gig of ram will increase things such as game loading time

More ram, that's for sure. Your 4800SE would easily smear that FX5200.

Get neither. Both are waste of money. Save your money and do a better upgrade.

same clock speeds but 128bit bus vs 64bit.guess what?he got lower scores in 3dmark01

yep I totally agree with Ilmarin as I owned a 5200 for about an hour. I thought I would "upgrade" my Ti4200 8x HAH the Ti scores 200 points more in 3Dmark 03 not to mention I saw ZERO improvement in Games. Go for the GIG!!!!

The FX 5200 sucks big time!! Never even think of getting it... ur Geforce 4 Ti 4800 SE is far more better...

Deffo more RAM! I had 768mb RAM and SWG (Star Wars Galaxies) was fine but sometimes sluttering (depends on the area) I added 256mb RAM and it is a lot better now.

Definitely more ram. A 5200 would be a big downgrade (it may boast dx9 features but the card can't cope with them).
