Indeed. gtx680 is dead long time ago while 7970 aka 280X still compete with gtx780. We'll see. Driver driver improvements are on the way, maybe even some price reductions. Atleast AMD have a card that compete with bigs boys 980ti/TitanX.
+1 , thank you my good friend eclap we are in the same page because we are not fanboys and we see things as for what they really are , neither green or red hype just facts and reality. Cheers mate
Wow. I was pretty determined to get a Fury X, but I dont play at 4k and below that res the performance is really underwhelming. Getting a 980Ti, too bad.
Soooo....Does AMD plan on rectifying the sad situation when Windows 10 gets released with DX12, and AMD comes out with new drivers.... and when they unlock overclocking on the Fury.... ??? will it finally be freed to perform as many expected it to perform ? I know I just asked if AMD plans on releasing good drivers, I know how that sounds
Absolutley agree with above ^^. +20% perf. to compensate ATI drivers noob team aswell. 104*C on VRM! under that rubber thermal armor.. again :micro: lol! Thanks for review I just like add that thermall imaging there are very superficial, and misinforms customers.
Their last WHQL driver is from 197 days ago, period. It was released on 9/12/2014. It's been well over half a year now without a WHQL driver. To put this into perspective; between April and May, Intel released three WHQL drivers for their Intel HD HD 4xxx, 5xxx, 6xxx alone. Nvidia also released three WHQL drivers. So yes, AMD drivers are non-existent for all intents and purpose. This is why it's hard to get them into an OEM system as well when they refuse to support their products.
I don't know why people are expecting performance to come from drivers. GCN isn't new and 1.2 doesn't really change that much. Why would AMD suddenly be able to extract a bunch more performance out of it 3 years later?
Well tbh, I dont care if a driver is WHQL certified or not - AMD released plenty of beta drivers and guess what? They work Also, I remember a certain WHQL driver from the green side that fried cards a new beta driver was released pretty fast after that
He's talking about the 780Ti and 390x. Idk man, -TJ- was in nearly every thread linking benchmarks from December showing the Fury beating a Titan X claiming how amazing it is.
Huh? GTA V 7970 looses to 680 7970ghz looses to 780 290 looses to 970 290x looses to 980 (although it beats 780ti) TW3 7970ghz looses to even 960 290 looses to 970 290x looses to 980 390x looses to 980 BFH 7970ghz looses to 780 290 beats 970 290x looses to 980 390x looses to 980 I don't really see how 290/290x compete with 970/980/ Hell, not even the 390x can keep up with the 980.
I was actually referring to the comparison between 290/290x and Gtx 970/980. But yeah, that vram will most likely hurt Fury X in the future, less one point in future proofing i guess.
It matters for everyone who's not an enthusiast. People are not getting AMD's beta drivers pushed to them through Windows Update. That means for the majority of people who get an OEM system and never change a setting themselves, they haven't received an update in nearly 7 months.
Great Review Hilbert and i enjoyed reading it , deep down inside i was kinda hoping it would be on par with the Titan x, however as we can see it does trade blows with the 980ti I really want to swap over to AMD ,,( for freesync ) but there driver support and consistently, is what is putting me off atm ,,, i will just wait and see what the next couple of months brings and then make a decision after i continue to monitor the AMD driver thread.
