Hi! I took the advice of a senior forum user, so i made this thread. In a near future I'd like to purchase a new AMD graphics card. I want to upgrade from 5670 to 7850. But the question is, will my PSU enough for this change. I have a CORSAIR CX430 - 430W PSU, PhenomII X6 1055T(125W), and an ASUS SB880/SB750 motherboard. I know, that the AMD recommends a 500W PSU for the GPU, but according to my calculations, the PSU can handle the 7850. And I don't want to overclock the graphics card, not now not ever. Its a decent PSU, but i don't think it will be enough, as only got 28a on the 12v rail, which sounds a bit low to me.
Looks like the 7850 is a 150W card: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5625/...d-7850-review-rounding-out-southern-islands/1 I'll oversimplify: 12.5A at +12V for the card, 10.4A for the CPU, or about 23A just for the CPU and card. You may be able to get away with it with the CX430 (28A) but a heftier PSU would be better. It might also have the second 6 oin PCI-E power connector that the card needs. (You can use a Molex to PCI-E adapter, but it's not the preferred way.)
Thanks for the quick help. I think i should get a better PSU no a 1000W, just a little better to be certain. I tempted by the revision of the test, by the G3D team. Approximatley they measured a 108W consuption. So my little brain started to work. Sadly i have to wait for the upgrade near 6 months to get the cards prices normalize. In my country the salers'll give them way to high sale price.
