Meanwhile at AMD, both sockets are the same as last year and will be the same next year.
Intel really needs to stop this BS, most people with a functioning brain did or will switch to AMD.

You mean both sockets on the same board? :eek:HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! With punnie heat sinks really does not look good! But this isnt AMD SO move along......

I was referring to AM4 and TR4 (SP3r2) sockets, not both on the same board.

Intel's strategy, which is simply to ignore the fact that there is any kind of competition has worked for a long time because, for the most part, there wasn't any.

At this point, they need to start drastically adjusting that particular strategy because as much as I totally disagree with stupid statements such as 'Intel is dead', if they don't start accepting the fact that real competition is available, they will hurt themselves in the long run.

Since I own several X299 motherboards/processors, not sure who your comment is aimed at ;)

I heard you only get it if you buy a mobo+CPU combo.

OMG it's just so sad..., Up-to 22C XEON CPU was already available on X99 platform but they decide to rush X299 to market, now They plan to release those 22C on X299-THANKS INTEL! lol.
And this is not over- so they just re-brand the big XEON socket as another "New" HEDT platform!! -OMG Marketing team replaced the engineering team !

Well, Intel can't really do much at the moment. Although I'm sure it pains them to offer their premium 28-core Xeons to consumers, they can't allow AMD to run away with the entire HEDT market. This might be a desperation move on their part but it'll keep the faithful happy.

I think Intel is more than a little salty that they cannot match the core count this time (in the Corean War, core count is what matters). Intel basically trolled AMD with the 7980XE, offering two more cores than the 1950X to maintain superiority. AMD shut the door on that possibility this time so they'll have to do it on pure performance alone. At 250W it should be comparable to the 2990WX, but pricing is likely going to be astronomical, for both the board and the CPU (might as well just buy a Xeon and call it a day :p).

That's assuming that this rumor is true, of course.

I wonder do these constant new sockets do anything from cpu design or is just strickly done to make money on cpu and motherboard ever year. there is reason why I dont upgrade ever 5 years and gpu only tends to be upgrade less it breaks I get game that runs horrib

"if they don't start accepting the fact that real competition is available, they will hurt themselves in the long run."

Yes real competition, and judging from the Threadripper 2990wx review here it looks glueing them dies does pay off for AMD.
I wonder if GF really pulls of that 7nm in 2019 what competitive scenario will 2019 be?

Am I the only one here bewildered by the size of that chipset heatsink? For something that big, the chipset alone must use at least 30W.

That's the board that they had during the Computex event. This is basically rumor at this point so the pictures don't represent the final product in any way.

I thought the photo on the left (the fully built PC) was the one from Computex? The photo next to it looks like a distinctly different motherboard - that's the one I'm referring to.

that is the board used in the machine at computex, Custom made by gigabyte so that they could overclock without blowing up the vrm.
