In all those years ARK had (kindly said) trouble on delivering optimization promises. But they surely had no problem spending millions of man-hours at producing DLCs and stand alone spinoffs to make more money. Therefore basic ARK being free now, when everyone interested got it years ago, is not causing financial loss from new players. It is only potential loss from not double dipping on 2 separated delivery platforms. (Which is minimal.)

Thanks for posting but yeah I was already all over Ark: Survival Evolved and well I get basically everything free to fill the backlog4life like many. Honestly it would be nice if with gaming they would slow the heck down and make more polished games and thus less of them so the backlog4life is far less and the games more enjoyable.
Wildcard is sure that they want you to believe it... The base game is 100GB, you could probably be well over 300GB with all dlc installed. They still claim that same 60GB on Steam also. My install is 266GB with all of the free dlc's and a couple of the paid one I picked up a couple of weeks ago on sale cheap.
Patching of that game is always pita. People better have double free space than actual installation takes.
