I'm getting a new monitor that has HDMI/audio output. And i'm wondering, my audio has alot of interference from the motherboards onboard audio, i didn't had this before on the laptop. So i'm going to hook my speakers up to the monitor and hope that it resolves the issue. My real question is, do i get better audio from HDMI then my onboard soundcard? The onboard chip is quiet old, as i still use a socket 775 motherboard.
Depends on what DAC you have that the HDMI is feeding to. Most likely, any DAC will be better than onboard, so I would think that HDMI would be better regards, RagDoll.
Sounds like you're considering to connect your speakers to a headphone output on the monitor? I don't think any (cheap) DAC in a monitor can be any good though. Of course, you could just try and find out yourself EDIT: in some cases it seems to be possible to send an analogue signal over HDMI as well. Don't know about the quality of that in your case.
No it's not an headphone output, it's for external speakers. And that sound comes from the HDMI out of my videocard. So it will use the nvidia hdmi audio right? And i'm wondering if that's better then my onboard sound.
When your using HDMI your receiver is doing all the work, all the HDMI is doing is sending the signal to your receiver from your Nvidia card. The codec that Nvidia uses is the intel HD one while AMD uses Realtek codec. You be fine as long you play games that natively output 5.1, but if you play a older game or that odd game then those will output to 2 channels and you would have to upmix it. A buddy of mine goes thru this issue all the time, when he plays certain games and then flip on the upmix function on his receiver.
I dont use a receiver, i got 2 bx5 monitors hooked to my sub, and then from my sub to the monitor. So does that Intel HD give better sound then my onboard on the P5E3 motherboard? I never play older games, mostly BF4, Ghosts and WoW.
Edit: It doesnt matter which Connection you use for your HDMI audio, both are just sending a signal. Only your Audio setup comes into play on how it sounds. so it doesn't matter which one you use.Unless your having issues with either one, or your onboard has software functions that you want that not on your gpu audio codec.
