Watcha reckon - this is to go along side my 9800pro and soundblaster audigy 2 I have all other components just need these... Any help greatly appreciated Rob
Check overclockers.co.uk for a Athlon 64 3200+ Winchester (£132.19) Epox EP-9NDA3+ Nforce 3 Mobo (£82.19) Corsair 1GB DDR XMS3200C2 Pro TwinX (2x512MB) CAS2 (£99.82) Total - £314.20 + about £10 p&p -- Worth overspending by £25 Gives you a S939 rig which is gonna be around for a while (apparently anyway!!)
Been back to www.overclockers.co.uk, just to check that I am not seeing things, and..........................I am not!! Its a good price, for pretty good memory! Delivery service is also excellent, ordered my mobo and some other stuff from there, arrived within 2 working days! They are good!!!
yeh ive always used ocuk before thats where most of this kit has come from, theyre 2nd to none - yeh im definetely going to go for a 939 amd combo that all looks rather good actually dude cheers jonny
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Clawhammer 130nm I am tempted with the above though... Much more of an upgrade from the 3200 winchester or not worth it?
Try and stick to a s939 (the claw is a 754 i think), tbh the clawhammer does not OC as well as the Winchester (apparently). And, there is only .2ghz clock speed between the two!! As for a PSU, you may want to get a more powerful one, but, 350w should hold stock levels OK. So, if you want to OC, get a new one, if you don't, then..........don't!! I have just found this: http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=111924&cks=PRL Pretty much the same package but much cheaper........although, would have to ring and check the core of the CPU (if you are that bothered). This would also leave it open to get a new PSU!! (min 450w)!!
well, the core on that CPU is a winchester.... I am tempted with this though DESCRIPTION QUANTITY PRICE COST AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Winchester 90nm (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-112-AM) 1 £142.95 £142.95 Epox EP-9NDA3+ nForce 3 Ultra (Socket 939) Motherboard (MB-028-EP) 1 £69.95 £69.95 GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS2.5 (GE1GB3200BHDC) (MY-005-GL) 1 £59.95 £59.95 Subtotal £272.85 VAT £47.75 Total £320.60
Don't forget you need a heatsink / fan as that CPU is OEM. Get yourself a decent one though, my 3500 runs quite warm @ stock levels and up to about 50 at full load, and thats with loads of other case fans etc. Can recommend the Geil Value as it is very good for OC, and does a great job for the price. Certainly a good package!!
You plan to OC? Then get a Venice (E3) core CPU, they will apparently do close to 3.0 GHz on air, though not a lot of results in yet. They are the same as winchesters, but with strained silicon, SSE3 support and an improved memory controller. A 3000+ or 3200+ model should be fine. Also, get some memory with Samsung TCCD chips on a brainpower PCB. Starting third down: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Socket_939_cpus.html For memory you can google up your own "TCCD+brainpower" lists. I believe these are on them, though definately verify this before buying: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/GeIL_Golden_Dragon.html First one: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Enhanced_Bandwidth_Series.html Overclockers.uk's selection is somewhat deficient. Other popular modules are Patriot XBL PC3200 2-2-2-5 and PQI Turbo PC3200 2-2-2-5. Corsair has modules with TCCD chips, but not on brainpower PCBs. I'd avoid them for that reason, if you are able to afford TCCD+brainpower modules that is.
If I had a bit more patience, I would have got a Venice, but my 3500 is only a stop gap til I can get a FX-57 or a 4800+ (undecided)!!! I think it depends on £££ and purpose as to wether the Winnie would be enough!!
This poor guy must be gettin sick of all this!!!!! Havin to stick to a budget is such a bitch......................... My opinion, go with your gut feelin!
lol ffs i can just about bear with the £20 over budget for the 3500 winchester chip.... its probably worth it.. but to wait an extra months pay for a venice i cant be assed lol What psu now!? Cheers for ya help its greatly appreciated
oh yeah if ne1 is planning on getting a psu ive had 3 qtec ones blow up bought an antec one i think and its a beast... dunno what psu to get tho 450w sounds good
I got an Akasa 460w for OcUK, but.........£60 OUCH!!!! Still paining, but needed the PCI-e power!! If you live anywhere near Cumbria, I have a used 450w 12vATX PSU for sale - £20ish!
