While I doubt Microsoft cares, unless you get a couple million signatures, I applaud the effort. I also find the Metro UI to be less than useful. Sorry, but I will not 'Like' it, because I believe Facebook is the biggest cancer on the Internet.
I think sooner or later some 3rd party tweaking app may take a stab it (maybe Classic Shell?). At first I was somewhat annoyed with metro but within an hour I've come to accept it and even like it. Still the removal of choice is silly I think, but dont feel strongly about it to join any petition.
Its fair enough wanting to disable Metro, but I cant see why its such a big issue. You dont have to use it. The dippy method of shutting down needs to be sorted.
Just pick a non aero theme in personalize of windows 7. There is a windows 7 basic theme. I personally like aero but disable it when launching games.
it uses VRAM, on battlefield 3 with aero on high = sttuter in BIG maps when @ plane (sttuter like 60-10-60-10 fps), with aero OFF, fixed.
This petition is rather pointless. Even if you manage to get 100% of Windows users to sign it (which would be impossible), Microsoft is not required to even acknowledge it. Besides, some of us actually like Metro. Move the mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen. You'll find the shutdown function on the resulting menu.
Stupid, MS are not going to undo something they are pushing out on all devices because of a petition. Man up and either swallow it or suck on 7
While I agree that the option would be nice, I really don't think a petition is going to help. Actually using the Windows 8 CP and leaving feedback on the official Windows 8 Consumer Preview forum or through The Windows Feedback Program would be a much more useful route to take in my opinion.
Like I said, a petition is pointless. Even if you managed to get 100% of Windows users to sign it, it's impossible to force MS to act based on the petition. Innovation HAS to happen....learn to live with it.

Signed. If everyone would say that voicing your opinion is pointless the world will stand still. I find the Metro UI a good idea, but for everyday use on a regular PC it is more in the way than anything. As for Aero, disable the Desktop Window Manager Session Management Service and it's off. Classic desktop, that's what I prefer on my laptop.
tried on win8?, i cant find it on services.msc, and on taskmanager it says "this will shut down PC"... Ok, i found it as dwm.exe, but finishing it will start it again, i disabled transparency ("aero"?) lets see if its enough...
