Time to upgrade my 560ti

Hi guys, so it's been a while since I've bought any new hardware. I built my current rig about 4-5 years ago and it has served me well, however I'd like to be able to play newer games like DS3 and the witcher 3 on max-high settings at 1080p.

Can you gurus please advise: will the rest of my system be a bottle neck if I simply upgrade the GPU? Also (forgive me I'm slightly out of the loop) is it possible to run 2 GPU's at once even if they are not identical? I was wondering if I should sell my 560ti or if it's possible to use it as a second GPU. Thanks in advance Guru's:

 

Overclock that 2500k to 4.5Ghz and wait for Pascal then throw in there a gtx1070, it should bring your PC to life again.

 

Hmmmm not sure I want to wait. Pascal worth it? Also what price range is that card in?

 

Cant tell, im thinking 350$ range, like 970. If you really cant wait, i would recommend R9 390 over 970 at this time.

Sandy bridge can keep up, dont worry. 2500k at 4.5Ghz+ is still a nice chip. Another 8GB of system ram cant hurt as well.

 

Look at my spec's i have an older CPU than you, i upgrade my GPU and put an SSD in, the pc is reborn

 

You'll pump money on an old system. I would not do it.
Research current modem part prices and decide.
If I were you, I'd never buy a gpu now. Wait for Pascal.

 

Cheers gurus, I'll wait until Pascal then. In the mean time I'll be getting some more ram and overclock my cpu. Hopefully my mobo can deal with the strain.

 

You'll bottleneck the new powerful gpu with your cpu(and pci 2 mobo), even if oc'ed.

My previous PC run Titan X with X5670 OC to 4.2GHz abd I've never feel it any kind of bottleneck and that's on older X58/LGA1366 generation

pcie 2 vs 3 is in margin of error. 2500k at 4.8Ghz (like mine) is at 6600k stock performance level. I dont see such a CPU bottleneck any GPU. Well, maybe flagship cards.

I had your board. I know the bios. Only thing you should find out is how much is your chip is capable.

Sandy Bridge is very easy to overclock. 4.5Ghz will be peace of cake at 1.35v depending on the chip. Overclock via CPU turbo multiplier.

Start slowly, stock voltage and push it 4ghz and see if its stable. Mine was stable 4.1ghz stock voltage. Board have dinamic vcore so when it crashes starting pushing +0.20v and see how it goes.

LLC always ON, PPL overvoltage Off.

You mean dark souls 3, i did read some stuff about new driver that had some bug for it. Did u check it out? I'll try it later this week after download queue is empty !

 

Rolling back to an older driver helped substantially on Dark Souls 3 v1.03 with my 560t but it feels as though the game isn't optimised properly towards lower end systems as changing the in game settings makes virtually no difference to the fps.

 

hopefully a fix will arrive soon

Success, OC'd my CPU to 4.5, was super easy.

OC'd my GPU a bit and have seen an improvement on DS3 (albeit on low settings)

That's good. Keep your temps in check if your using stock cooling. Some 212 Evo for only 30$ would help push that chip even more.

I am at 4.8Ghz 1.4v for last two years, no problems. Peak at 75c but in gaming never pushing more than 65c. Sandy chip is cool compared to crappy Ivy and first gen of Haswell.
