Hey, I have been running Dual 8800GTX Cards (SLI) for over a year now..just want to know how my setup compares to the newer and more powerful Nvidia/ATI cards? Is it a big difference? Think I'll be good for another year? I usually play my games on High Resolutions.. (1680x1050, AND 1920X1080)..Worth an upgrade? Thanks!

Same here, going strong. Waiting for the ... what it is going to be called ... 380 GTX ? I give my cards until 2Q 2009, and just pop in an E8600 around January.
I just purchased a BFG GTX 260 oc maxcore to replace a single 8800 GTX. I gave my GTX to my son . His went from an 8800gt to the GTX and his pc now rocks. I paid almost twice the price when I bought my GTX. The 260 seems a good price vs. performance card.
8800GTX SLI still going strong here.... Games i play: Crysis Crysis Warhead DeadSpace Farcry 2 Fallout 3 All at 1680x1050 with most setting up to max, with a minimum of 4x AA and 16x AF ( Cept Crysis and Crysis Warhead ofcourse. )
Your setup is actually better than all single GPUs out there and it is only bested by the two ATI's offering on dual GPU, the 4870x2 and 4850x2. Personally I see the last batch of cards as a failure as they're hardly -even- evolutionary products, we're spoiled in expecting close to 100% performance advantage in each new generation of cards but the last one betrayed us. It's also understandable -if you thing about it- considering that no (very very few) new games support the added performance (the old cards run the games just fine). In other words the console fanboys won, your card is not obsolete every six months (the 88xx series is two years old and plays EVERYTHING) and the gaming industry (considering graphics) stalled. For the new round of better graphics you 'll have to wait for the new gen of consoles (and then stay at that fidelity for more than half a decade). The pace of video games' evolution (from Mario to Crysis) is approaching zero as no new games are created to support new hardware and thus no new hardware is created to accommodate the non-existent games. As PC gamers we're "welcomed" to this new era of consolised stagnation, prepare for Call of Duty 15, Final Fantasy 31 and Red Alert 8, now that innovation died (along with its only life-giver, PC gaming).
I have 8800gtx Sli setup on my old rig. Newer cards wont be a massive improvement if you are gaming in the high resolution. All it comes down to is the power usage. Those 8800gtx in sli suck alot of power. And i will tell you now crysis run better in my 8800gtx sli setup at 1920 x 1200 then my setup right now.
I`m very pleased with my rig...I almost bought 2 gtx 280 but then I did some research and found out that it`s not necessary. Except Crysis and Crysis Warhead all games running at max settings at 1920x1200... Great card thinking that it`s 2 years old. 2 years in term of pc hardware is like 50 years in human life. We have 50 years old Olympic champion here breaking the records...c1:
I bought another 8800GTX when the reviews of the GTX 280 and HD4870 surfaced I'm gaming @ 1920x1200 I'm skipping this generation and wait for DX11 cards to emerge, cos there is no single reason to upgrade!
CRAP ! Installed a few different things yesterday evenning ( DX9 Nov update, new XFI DDL drivers ). Booted up today for some DDL 5.1 Crysis and Deadspace audio awesomenezz but my SLI is f***** up ! Crysis and Warhead both play at around half the fps ... so ok SLI is not working. Switch'd it off and on again, nothing!. Cards are not running hot @ idle around GTX 1: 51C - GTX 2: 47C, normally under load they run at 71/69C so nothing wrong there. Going to reinstall 178.24 .... Haha you don't need SLi GTX's to run 1920x1200. I play all games including Crysis and Warhead at 1920x1200 on a single 128sp G92 @ 1.38V w/ 864/2106/2000 clocks 24/7 for over 10 months. The only problem I have is staying below the 512mb VRAM limit and that causes me to turn off some IQ settings. I have really been impressed for a mid-range card how well this card has overclocked and managed to power my BenQ FP241W 24" S-PVA LCD. Not to mention how cool the G92 runs with loads around 59C and idle normally around 28C on just high end air cooling. I can max out all settings in most games besides AA and manage to stay between 45-80fps in TF2, BioShock, GRID, UT3, and CoH to name a few. So there are a lot of older GPU's out there still performing great at large resolutions (19*0XT for one)
