there is one built in to the game if you are talking about that one

I think they were talking about just the intro sequence in FEAR, not the built-in stress test (even though that's probably a lot better for the purpose)

How about my system? Is it CPU bounded as it is configured right now?

You know what?? I agree. Why didn't they do the "Competition" with the built in Stress Test, isntead of just rendering the guy on the ground? The stress test will include everything in the game. (firefight, lighting, water, explosion, fire...etc)

I call for a "re-test" from r0k0 and spectacle. And briantheking hasn't posted for FEAR has he?

EVERYONE use same settings.
VSYNC OFF!
1280x960
All CPU and VIDEO settings maxxed out
(including volumetric lighting max)
NO soft shadow.
In your windows profile, make sure everything is on APPLICATION SETTINGS

I too would like to know if his CPU is bottlenecking his 7800GT.

I beg to differ with you. My scores go up quite a bit when I clock my CPU to 3Ghz from 2.8Ghz.

scores go up in what? Run a GPU dependent game like FEAR and see if your frames change at all.

yeah come on guys, do the test and post your scores. It'll only take a couple mins. I wish i still had FEAR. I would run the test with my 7800GT too.

You know what. We had some post about fear benchmarks, lemme see if i can find any info with 1280x960, or any good comparison between 2 diff cpu's with same vid card.

show us

also notice I said @(650/1700) you are running at 700/1800.

I'm talking about 650/1700. And tbh it will still hold a 7900GT back @ 600/1600. And what would you like me to show you?

Didn't we just do that? My CPU and single 7900GT stomped the Intel. But this is not really news now is it? Please people get over the fact that a any pentium based system will not keep up with an AMD rig.

I issue a challenge to any and all comers with a pentium based rig and either 7900GT SLI or 7900GT single.

I will beat anyone with a pentium in any game, I don't care if you have your Pentium clocked to 5Ghz, it will lose to my Opteron clocked 2Ghz slower......

...anyone want to be humbled today?

..and before some smart a$$ comes along, yes I'm well aware that Conroe will beat me.....but that's not what this thread is about, it was about a bottlenecking arguement with a P4.....

Haha what do you think I want you to show us? Post screenshots smart guy. Run the Fear bench with your CPU at 2.8ghz and then run it at 3.0ghz and see if there any difference. Also run your card at stock and then 650/1700

and this ^ above me is some pretty dumb sh*t to post on a forum. I mean come on.

blah lol. 3ghz opty performs above X62 performance.

A P4 is gonna have to be a Dual Core version clocked to able 5.2 or 5.3 to beat it I believe.

It's not dumb. It's me being irritated by people who don't know any better. I tried to explain it, but apparently some of you don't understand the words that I'm typing. So, I'll just show you (like I already did) the a P4 is a tremendous bottleneck for a higher end video card.

And as for the test, do you want the ingame performance test with max/max settings or the same one as above with Fetter knealing on the ground??

lol...at least somebody understands......but it would probably have to be closer to 5.5Ghz to even be in the same ball park.....:eek:c:

performance test with max/max and show us the clocks you are running. Everyone that I have ever talked to has said once you get past 2.5ghz the bottlenecks gets so small its not noticable even with clocks like mine. Now im not sure once you hit clocks like 700/1800.

he mean the GPU Stress test in video options. with all max no Soft shadows and 1280x960, and vSync off

but i want to do again but with soft shadows on... and Spectacle... i dont say i'll ever beat you dont worry i knew before i joined these forums that AMD is 3x faster if not more than Pentiums..! :p
