I think he was talking about the shader IQ enhancments, not the acceleration.

Too those a few posts up discussion the choppy playback on ATI cards...

With both my gtx260 and 9500gt the offloading part of the program works fine, but as soon I enable the shader options playback goes very jerky indeed.

Hi, I can report that GPU acceleration on the htpc to the left now works flawlessly with windows 7 rc1 x64. Installed the latest k-lite mega codecs pack wich has mpc-hc with it (4.8.0). Just disabled ffwdshow to work when mpc is on and dxva works. Also installed the new ati drivers for windows 7.

The only thing missing now is propper multi-channel support from creative, but Ill just get rid of that card.

I just use the shader for the 0 - 255 colour or w/e, makes black more like real black on LCD's and white appears more... white :p

iis there a plugin for MPC that is similar to Arcsoft's SimHD? (a cuda based algo that makes SD movies to almost HD) or ar the shaders good enough?

If you ask me that GPU screenie looks far too bright in places and in others far too dark. The CPU screen looks grainier but the shadows and light look more realistic.

    Well sorted this one.

I just unticked the "VMR9 mixer mode" from VMR9 (renderless properties) and now using this mode and pixelshaders is smooth.
Win xp 32, 9500gt in my HTPC.

    I use 'sharpen complex', 'sharpen' and '16-235 > 0-255' [sd][hd].

Those sharpen filters really make the IQ go through the roof when used on a good 1080p file, for 720p files it can sometimes be too much showing all the imperfections !!!

    Using MPC-HC 1.2.1081.0 on Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate.

Unfortunatly no Haali available yet so still using Matroska. Took me a bit of fiddling to get the shaders to work but now the quality seems to match that of when I was still running MPC-HC on XP.

I did get a warning at some point that I was missing some DX 9.0c component but clicked it away too fast, besides W7 is running DX11, so should be ok right?

CPU seems to be idle when playing full screen, so glad I invested in a newer video card (had a 8800GT before this one). Anyway just wanted to say thanks for the wonderfull and easy to follow article. Cheers!

Edit: Crap I almost forgot to ask, it seems MPC-HC has a lot more options now under shaders, I attached a screeny of them, I never noticed the Screen Space section before, does anyone know the difference?

I noticed this too. There are also more output options on the renderer too.

I switched to W7 64bit and it works fine, compared to Xp 32bit.

I installed DX9 though, not sure if the W7 RC comes with DX11 and if mpc can make use of it...

vlc is nice and light, but heavy load content like, 1080p and 4gb+ size files brings it to its knees like a $2 hooker.

I use PDVD and it pisses me off because it won't use DXVA on any of my movies, but as soon as I convert them to MPEG TS format....Voila! - it suddenly remembers about Hardware Acceleration.

So it seems apparent to me that it's not in how the file is encoded, it must be something to do with the API's or the like.

Why would Cyberlink code their software like that?

I use the nightlies of MPC-HC, which can be found here:

    http://www.xvidvideo.ru/content/category/1/1/2

As you can see in the Output section, EVR seems to have something new -- I am not sure what it does; anyone want to try to figure it out?!:

And, there are a few new things, there may be more but I don't feel like comparing the two versions -- anyone else want to compare?!:
