I'd really appreciate it if everyone could check and make sure that what I picked out will work out fine.

Some things that I'm concerned about:

Will that motherboard fit in my case fine? My current mobo/case does not fit properly, and the video card has to physically be pushed down in order to get a monitor cable into the back.

If I don't have a DVI monitor, but I have the VGA->DVI converter, will it work out fine? I never really used it.

And... will that Hard Drive work with the mobo?

Thank you everyone! I'm really nervous about this purchase, I just want to make sure I didn't screw anything up :)

Er... why get ATI GFX card and SLI mobo? Wouldn't X200 Xfire be better for that card? Or an nVidia 78 of some sort?

Hope you got a really cool case. And a 450W PSU ain't go power no dual card beastie.

that motherboard doesnt look like an SLI motherboard.

450watt psu probably is the bare minium for that setup. besides that everything should work together. should being the keyword since you can never be 100% sure everything will work with everything else, just a risk you take when making a custom computer.

that dvd-rom drive is pretty good i have one myself and it works like a charm. great bang for buck.

    1. You want 2gb ram for that kinda system
    2. It will cook in a Sonata 2. It is made to be quiet and does not provide top-notch cooling.
    3. Yes the hard drive is compatible
    4. yes the NEC is a good buy

What would be a more suitable case then? I'm looking for sleek, not flashy. (Basically no LED's, I prefer a black case)

Yea, SorienOR touched on exactly what I was thinking when I read your system specs. You are definately going to want 2GB of RAM in the 2x1GB variety for that computer. I think that is the weakest part of that system.

I think a little better PSU would be nice too, but the one you have will probably do the job fine.

I know the Antec Sonata is pretty small. However, I think that it should work ok though. I mean, it will run a bit toasty, but not dangerously warm or anything. *shrugs*

Are you trying to make this computer silent?

Would 4x512 be stupid? I *might* buy more RAM later, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary. I'm at the very edge of my budget right now, so I can't afford another gig.

Well, just bought it. I added a floppy drive so I can install the SATA drivers easier.

    Thanks for the responses.

The P-180 is pretty nice, or if you've got some cash to spare, a black Lian Li V-1000...

As for RAM, if I were you I'd get 2x1GB so as not to sacrifice speed/timings...

I would suggest further thoughts on the case & psu. $99 for a case and psu rings a few bells. I dont know the make of psu they have in that case, worth checking carefully, decent power supply ignored by too many people. 450W is arguably a tad low with that setup, not a lot of room for manouvre - particularly if the Stated rating of that psu is more marketing than reality - dont know that psu, just suggesting a bit more focused thought on it. Personally I'd feel more comforatble at aka 500-550W from realiable manufacturer to give future requirements flexibility.

A definite note of caution on the case. It only has 1x120mm fan, not enough for that setup - particularly the 1900 card, its a beast, and is great at keeping the games room warm from the exit fans :) Please take a very close look at what you plan re cooling, the case on its own as the formal spec stands wont do the job.

    Regards
    Zy
