    Question on upgradeing ram.

What of these two configurations is better for gaming.

At present I have two pc3200 512 sticks running Dual Channel.

    Mem read: 5450
    Mem write:1878
    Mem Lat.: 52.7

When I add 1 512 pc3200 and one 256 pc3200 filling my four slots but losing Dual Channel.

    Mem read: 2962
    Mem write:1089
    Mem Lat.: 57.9

I will not be overclocking (can't)

    amd 64 3500+

Are these two extra sticks I got for free worth putting in, or is the loss of Dual Channel make them actually slow down my computer in regards to gaming.

    Thanks for your help.

depends wot games you play. If u needs alot of ram ( like BF 2142) then u can use it. But non dual channel will cause you to lose performance on many other things. Not worth it in my view. Sell them all and get two sticks of 1GB.

Alot of the newer games are requiring 1024 minimum, 2 gb recommended. I play games like GRAW and Oblivion.

What other things you mention will I lose performance on?

The performance difference between single and dual channel is somewhere between 3-7%.

I would not choose to lose dual channel for an added 728mb ram & run in single channel mode

Assuming that it's used with a dual core CPU, that was their excuse for removing dual channel from socket 754 even though 462/A had it.

    Thanks for the responses.

I guess my best bet would be to go buy another 512 stick and have 2 gb running in dual (4x512).
