    Are those temporal artifacts?
They seemed like the jet engine trails.

I just told you that it's 100% XeSS artifact. Otherwise those vehicles would be switching to battery propulsion when switching to TAA or FSR 2, as it entirely disappears then...
It suspect it is some bad case of erroneous pixel clamping of XeSS by not making sense of the spoiler attached to the vehicle after a gap. Same as typical trailing of birds with DLSS, but just way worse...

Can someone please tell me if the following is true and, if not, elaborate?

DLSS 3 is just DLSS 2 with the added frame generation (FG) (ie. interpolation) feature. Therefore, FG aside, it's just DLSS 2.

If the above statement is correct and non-FG DLSS 3 uses the exact same processes, formulas, algorithms, AI "smarts", etc. as DLSS 2, then does that mean we can use the most current DLSS 3 DLL files to update our DLSS 2 games since, FG aside, DLSS 3 is actually just DLSS 2?

P.S. Been reading these forums for many, many years. Just signed up, first message ever. Hello!

Yes, DLSS 3.1.x is actually DLSS2 (should be called DLSS Super Resolution).

You can manually update DLSS SR dll and Frame Generation Dll files separately on the majority of supported games

Hmmm, I'm a little confused now because, when downloading DLSS, there's only ever 1 file, the nvngx_dlss.dll file, that's it. This is the same for v2 (v2.5.1) and v3 (v3.1.11).

The instructions I read at TechPowerUp's DLSS page also say to just drop and replace the single DLL file...No mention of multiple files...

TPU doesn't store the Frame Generation dll, only DLSS SR dll.

FG dll is the nvngx_dlssg.dll you can find in FG supported games.

CP2077 path trace patch has the latest FG dll, which can be copied to other FG supported games to reduce HUD artifacts

    Fantastic, thank you.
So, just to confirm, for those looking to update DLSS for DLSS 2 games (eg. Metro Exodus), we should be using the SR file, which is nvngx_dlss.dll, from the most recent DLSS 3 version (eg. v3.1.11), not from the most recent DLSS 2 version (2.5.1). The exception to this would be any game that runs DLSS 1, it must stay with versions of the DLSS 1 dll file (since DLSS 1 and 2 are fundamentally different).

    All correct?

Correct, but you can still use dll 2.5.1 too.

I personally use 2.5.1 because it has less smearing compare to 3.1.11

The benefit to 3.1.11 is that you can tweak it, more info here

It looks better with dense foliage, but worse with power lines vs. TAA.

Similar, but TAA is better for lights.
Im often shifting between DLSS, DLAA & TAA ;) no one has the upper hand overall.
