    Hi!

I recently bought RDR2 during the Steam spring sale, however it failed to even launch. Steam and the Rockstar Launcher display that it is running for a while, then without any sign just shut RDR2 down.

In the launcher.log file I have the following error messages:
[DISPLAY] [ 3128] [gamelaunch] Game exited with code 0xc0000005 (3221225477)
[DISPLAY] [ 3128] [crashdetection] Reading game exit file...
    [WARNING] [ 3128] [crashdetection] Not found: EXIT_CODE
[WARNING] [ 3128] [crashdetection] No exit code found in exit file.
    [WARNING] [ 3128] [crashdetection] Not found: ERROR_FILE_HASH
[DISPLAY] [ 3128] [crashdetection] No additional error information found.
    [WARNING] [ 3128] [crashdetection] Not found: ERROR_MESSAGE
[DISPLAY] [ 3128] [crashdetection] No additional error message found.
[DISPLAY] [ 3128] [crashdetection] Deleting game exit file...
    [ ERROR ] [ 3128] [crashdetection] Exit code 0xc0000005 indicates a fatal game exit (reason: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION)

What I have tried so far: reinstalling the game and the Rockstar Social Club, updating Windows and my graphics card.

On some other threads I read that old Vulkan layers could cause the issue. I tried deleting any and all that could cause the issue, which didn't solve the problem. I tried installing Vulkan 1.3.204.1, which is supposedly the last one that RDR2 supports, but this didn't help either.

Does anyone have any ideas I could try?

On NVDIA specific threads they mentioned that reverting the GPU driver to 527.56 could solve the problem. Is there an AMD driver version that would be an equivalent to that?

    My hardware specifications:
    CPU: Intel Core i3-4330
    GPU: AMD Rx550/550 Series
    16 Gb of RAM

    Try running as admin.

Oh, right. I forgot to add that I tried running as admin as well. I also tried checking the permissions of RDR2.exe PlayRDR2.exe and Rockstar Social Club as well to see anything was off there, but none of these helped.

From the log, I gatter you have some kind of access problem to the files.
Either because of permissions or damaged files.

    [WARNING] [ 3128] [crashdetection] Not found: ERROR_FILE_HASH

Try moving the game to another drive.
    Specially if you use C:
    Don't, as a general rule.

cx00005 problems i've had in past were usually memory related.
Try running your memory one speed step slower.

Increase pagefile min to 16384mb and max = 16384mb

    See if that alleviates problem.

Good point, though, it could also mean a problem on where the pagefile is at the moment, a bad drive could cause issues.
Also, I would NOT touch the page file manually like that.
I'd set it to let windows manage it.

I decided to try RDR2 on my lappy, and I found that Rockstar launcher and Epic Games Launcher (I own it on Epic) needed to be updated several times each until the game would launch. Then it finally asked for my Rockstar account info, and then asked to link to my Epic Games acct. THEN it finally launched the game.

Just a FYI, the game benched at 57 fps avg on my 6800M system on Ultra Textures / High Settings, Vulkan, and running 23.3.1 (no FSR2) (Monitor is 4K@60)

There's a "system.xml" file in your Documents > Rockstar Games > Red Dead Redemption 2 > Settings folder

Try changing the graphics API in the <API> line. If it says "kSettingAPI_Vulkan" then change it to "kSettingAPI_DX12", or vice versa.

Don't bother, fix the actual issue instead of working around it.

I used DDU and reinstalled the graphics driver, used revo uninstaller to uninstall RDR2 and the Rockstar Social Club and checked to see what layers might be messing up the process, but I didn't find any that others with working RDR2 don't have.
I don't have a Settings folder and since the game doesn't launch it doesn't create one either so I cannot circumvent the problem.

I will try and install RDR2 on another drive now.

It is fixed, installing the game to a different drive solved the issues for me.

    Thank you for your suggestions!

Honestly this kind of error almost seems to be the default error whenever something goes wrong. I wouldn't exactly put that on RAM. I had seen that on so many setups over the years, rock stable systems that have ben Ramtested or even upgraded RAM without making any difference. More often than not it's simply the game trying to access something that for some reason isn't allowed.
