Omg  That's crazy. I paid 15315 DKK (converted from SEK) but that's only because I was in the queue for a TUF and since the shop wouldn't get any more of those they offered the Gigabyte instead for a lower price as the original price back then was 16181 DKK.

Well if you remember before mining craze, GPU market would saturate few months after launch and prices would start dropping. We are now returning to "normal" GPU market (albeit asking prices overall are still very high for 40 series).

Yeah pretty much the same here. Buying hardware since 2020 doesn't feel like it used to, imho. But yeah, 1900 to 2k incl. delivery is where one's at... for the cheapest models. If you want to slap a waterblock on it, can one even go with any other brand than the big ones, or the no longer existing FE cards? :D

And yeah, same situation too with the Seasonic PSUs! I've talked about it in another thread as well hehe

My anti-sag stand finally arrived. Although the base is magnetic it is very slippery so I ended up using double-sided tape to keep secure.

I've ended up using aloooot of money on this whole 4090 situation... xD

OK so it's in and running, a quick outing on DCS and yeah significantly smoother than my 6900XT when both are at 2600mhz, the 4090 runs cooler as well. My only issues are the crap power connector, and the NV control panel has not advanced, evolved or improved since I ran my 1080Ti, it's truly pants compared to the AMD interface. 20230125_222541.jpg

Right, so now its all good.
So what settings are peeps running.
Temps are no issue and im not worried about power consumption. Im just running the AB Scanner to get some ballpark figures.
Also the NV Panel, any particular settings for a 4k adaptive sync 144mhz screen.

Try adding +200 to the core and see what happens. You should be able to hit at least 3000MHz.
You can also add +1000 to the mem and probably go higher but results vary a lot after +1200.
Don't forget to max out core voltage slider and power limit slider.

Tbh though, is it worth it adding 100-200 watts powerdraw for 2 fps extra with core oc ? Mem-oc gives more performance without the same increase to power draw though :)

Very sexeh gpu you got in your sig btw :p

I agree with you, I don't OC the 4090 :p I rather undervolt it (well, it didn't work well so I stopped using it and instead use a 70% power limit) to get even lower temps as a I don't have the luxury of watercooling like @pegasus1 does. But since he asked I wanted to answer :)

Thanks! Unfortunately the GTX 760 doesn't run Witcher 3 RTX :D Wonder why.

I find undervolt delievers much better frametime consistency, as lowering the power target makes the gpu constantly try to boost too high. I run 2700 mhz @ 925 mv - about 3-5% performance loss vs stock, but roughly 100 watts less used :)

Thing is that undervolt works differently with 4000 cards - if you try to push the core clocks too high while you reduce the voltage, you lose performance. But thing is, even going down to like 2500 mhz, you barely lose any performance - it's mostly down to mem clocks :)

So far, i've UV the card to @930mv at 2700MHZ and lowered the power limit to 85, it seems to be the best balance and i lost 2-3% of performance, not noticeable at all.
Power draw is around 320W with some games going up to 370W tops.

Thanks guys, i ran the AB scanner and had zero issues hitting 2850mhz and the highest temp was 60C, at the end that suggested a +200mhz but ive also set up a stock profile and il do one for some of my less intensive games, SD2 for instance i ran on my 6900XT at 2300mhz rather than DCS at 2600mhz.
No for something contentious, zero coil whine is audible, now im not saying it isnt there, id need to have somebody else come round and listen but even when i pushed the card in Furmark there was nothing but a faint 'whooooooooosh' of my fans.
Didnt have much time to test anything last night, by the time it was in the loop and id routed all four 8 pin cables and tided up it was late. I need to fully bleed the last of the air out the system later then il run some more games and play with the UV. I wish there was something all-in-1 for the drivers though, the Radeon program is so user friendly in that respect.

I wouldn't touch the power limit, if i were you - just do it by voltage and frequency :)

Ye, cause you are gonna have spikes where it needs a bit more juice, and having the default power target allows that - lowering power target will induce more frametime inconsistency :)

But most cards seems to do between 900 and 950 mv at 2700 mhz, with minimal performance loss at much reduced power consumption.

MPhys, close enough to EE to know what coil whine is and what causes it, which is more than I can say for you.

I await a technical explanation of how you hypothesize that the input mains power can cause coil whine in a GPU.

You're kinda right as it messes up with the clocks, but i'm still testing it.
90% power limit usually seems to be the best option.
