  2. Isn't PBO and curve optimizer unlocked for 5800X3D as well? At least with latest AGESA/BIOSes?

Who is in charge of the updating the product pages on AMD? This is the second time they screwed up with information on the product page for these Zen4 CPUs.
Are they copying and pasting without checking what they are doing?

On most boards yes. So nothing new. It will be the same as 5800X3D. OCing with the BCLK should still work as 5.125-5.150ghz should be doable. Maybe 5.2ghz on lucky board.

bclk overclocking is much better on ryzen 7000 so it shouldn't make much difference on a good board , as it can accept an external clock just for the cpu cores like pinnacle ridge can, so no issues with pcie and the like.

sort of , you cant use a cpu clock override on the 5800x3d, so with 7000x3d you will get +200mhz , not just the extended power limits and undervolting.

edit:actually i cant confirm that, the page i read that is gone so i guess we'll just wait and see

I think the delayed release of the 7000x3d cpu's is due to this very issue. Why else all the confusion? It would appear AMD is confused about what it can do too.

Well ... There must be something they afraid some users might do ... Since those will be their best CPUs until Ryzen 8xxx 3d comes out the have no other reason to lock em up no ?

Based on these incidents, I'd say nobody is in charge. Somebody just does it on the side of their real job. The results then speak for themselves.

The answer could be more simple... they might just want to pull an Intel and artificially gate performance. I certainly believe they did that with the 5800X3D.

I have one and it runs cool, with the L3 running far cooler than the cores. IIRC the L3 runs no higher than 52C while the cores are stressed even to 80C+. I use PBO2 tuner to undervolt it to get a pseudo overclock, and it does make a significant difference under 100% load. The 5800X3D, at least my sample, appears to have a ton of headroom with no good reason that I can find for it to be locked down.

Completely understandable. As an indie company it is really hard to keep on top of these things. I know that when I make something even I am confused as to what it can do and its properties as well!

What does that mean? 5800x3d did not support overclocking it runs at poorly 4.2ghz and it still plays with the big boys.

I think these 3d v-cache cpus are meant to excel at gaming everything else comes second.

Well it would be nice if overclocked it would be as fast.

There are very few work applications that benefit from all that extra cache.
The only people that should care about these 3DV cache parts are gamers.

The 5800x3d will go down as the crown jewel gaming cpu of the AM4 socket era.

If you use your pc for tasks other than primarily gaming the 5900x would be the better choice for the AM4.

If you want really fast and really hot then Intel is it.

Like i said it would have been nice if it was overclockable and performance would be on par with stock 7900 or 7950.
I care about both , nothing wrong with that.

I understand that, but using 3DV cache limits heat transfer out of the CPU. So we can't expect these CPUs to clock as high.
Still, the 7950X with one CCX with cache and another without it, might be the best of both worlds.

True , I had my doubts as well , but since it was mentioned on AMD's site, i got excited.
