So finally back in the UK and going through my deliveries.
TUF 4090 and EK waterblock .
Crazy how big the HSF is on this card.

It's like an old muscle car. No f***ing plastic! In case of self defense it would be a TUF choice between this and a Brick.
I really liked almost everything of it - but its sound was a torture. Sadly.

Not much on at work today so I'm taking the opportunity to remove the stock HSF and put the EK block on.
Is it me or do they always go overboard on the amount of TIM they use.

Better too much than too little.

I'm looking forward to see how that EK block performs for you. :)

I typically use EK but on the 6900xt I went with Phanteks and its a great block with awesome clear mounting instructions. I'm more interested in how il be going ba k to NV drivers and Control Panel as I'm a big fan of the AMD ones.

They need a good amount of TIM. As you might see the Chip is slight convex in the cold state. It will flatten by heating up (there is a Video on Gamers Nexus with an Nvidia guy that explains that). Because of this It would also be a good idea to use a thick paste like Alphacool nexus or similar pastes. More fluid pastes like the Thermal Grizzly pastes have a chance for a pump out.

I only use TG and the EK block also comes with TG so il go with that.

Hmm as much as I want to wait for some more adequate prices of gpus, the upgrade bug is getting to me finally :( so I thought I need an upgrade for my 4 years old 2080ti. The only card that makes sense for me, as for a decent upgrade that will last me at least 4 years is the 4090.
But before I buy it I want to upgrade also my Corsair RM850i to the new ATX 3.0 PSUs. I want to sit and wait for the new Vertex series from Seasonic to be released tbh, but I also can buy now one of the Prime Tx 1300/1600W which apparently has the new 2x 8-Pin-PCIe auf 12-Pin-12VHPWR cable capable of 600W.

    https://www.caseking.de/seasonic-pr...teil-modular-pcie-5.0-1600-watt-nese-147.html

Decisions, decisions … what do you guys think ? Should I wait :D

PS: just also upgraded my monitor to the neo G8 but also before I played only at 4K.

Actually, it's time to return mine :) The card is fine overall but I cannot ignore the fan problems I have.
    1. Fan speeds at 53-57% produce vibrations that make my whole case "hum" (with bracket installed, I've tried two different ones)
    2. Fans do not work properly below 45%
    3. Fans rattle at ~90%

My store has reserved a replacement card for me in case they concur the issues I found.

I tend to go big or go home, I buy the fastest around at the time (when available). The only reason I went from a 6900xt to a 4090 was due to building my son a new PC and not wanting to use his old 2060 or give him my old 1080Ti, so he got the 6900xt.

Oh really? Mine doesn't have any vibrations, and i don't ever have fans running at 90%. But yeah, they don't work at ultra low speeds, but they are quiet enough at 1200 rpm.

Hope you get a card with better fans :)

Thanks! Remember that we spoke about QA being so and so with Gigabyte cards? Well, this is kind of it :) I'll post when I know the results, might be useful to you as well some day as you have the same card :p

    PSU quality: possible but unlikely
    Input power: not a chance

It's mostly down to the quality and construction of the inductors on the GPU board, that's where the whine comes from.

Im sure i remember an episode on one of the YT Tech programs where they got a card with a noisy or sticky fan, i think they took some ISO Alchohol or WD40 to it and it was fine, might have been a CPU HSF though.

Have a 2080Ti as well, would only, if anything, jump onto the 4090 / 4090TI bandwagon at this point. And I doubt a 4090TI is worth the extra hastle to wait...
That is, if you want to pay the money for such a card. Which is not my problem, but it just feels too expensive imho. At the same time, I doubt things will settle down to become cheaper anytime soon...

So yeah... no good advice here, only a very sympathetic guru to your situation :D

Yeah, gigabyte has about double the amount of rma's due to QA issues compared to the likes of msi etc.

But then again, the gigabyte 4090 gaming oc is selling very cheap now, compared to all the other models !

I feel a little bit cheated, if im honest - they slashed the price a week after i bought mine... lol

Yeah seems like this will be the norm going forwards, and now prices are down since the launch, I even saw 4090 at 1867 euros at mindfactory couple of days ago I think. I buy only MSI or ASUS (so round 2100euros for the SuprimX or between 2200 and 2600 euros for some asus variant) don’t trust other brands. Don’t care about noise or coil whine for that matter as I always game with headsets on :D

I just need to either wait for seasonic full atx 3 PSUs or shed another 500 euros on top of the 4090 for the prime TX variant. So yeah crazy numbers if you think about it. This has definitely become a very exclusive thing unfortunately.

Still, I wonder how many ASUS have been sent back due to coil whine, that would be interesting to know :D

The DKK is stronger than SEK so you pay a little bit less for that card than we do :p

Oh crap, they slashed the price? How much was the difference in DKK?
