AMD has released the non-X version of their Ryzen 7000 series processor. The new update isn't intended for extreme performance but is tagged with a far friendlier 65W TDP. And that means better heat levels whilst taking advantage of the Ryzen 7000 platform. In this review, we'll check out the Ryzen 5 7600 with its six cores.

AMD should have released these parts months ago. But greed is a cruel mistress.
Now even the old Zen3 CPUs are outselling Zen4, several times over.

I don't disagree but it's the mobo makers that are killing Zen4. $50 (US) more for a CPU vs $200 premium on run-of-the-mill mobos killed it for me

Both motherboards and CPUs were overpriced. The issue with CPUs is fixed. The Issue with motherboards pricing is not.

Performance is superb for the price. I was thinking getting one with some b650 board. Ram prices have gone down as well

I disagree, for me it`s better to release first the better and more expensive parts to "catch" the early adopters, that don`t mind paying more, and then release the cheaper parts for the rest of the crowd.

    Intel does the same.

The big problem is the prices of motherboards...

B650 boards can be found at 200eur like asus prime. Ddr5 6000 cl36 costs 180eur for 32gb kit. Not bad considering what it costed few months ago.

Now add r5 7600 to that 225eur and you got yourself a killer gaming combo for a 600eur more or less.

I think these non-X CPUs are great, quite efficient. The platform cost is closing an appealing price range. This year many R5 3600 and lower tier CPU owners will upgrade to the R5 7600, which seems to be the best gaming CPU given the upgradability, since i5-13400 doesn't equal same greatness as i5-12400 this time, because all locked chips below the i5-13600 have less cache and not that high clocks, and some say they are actually Alder Lake parts, though can anyone confirm this?
i5-13400 will rock as the i5-12600K, which is still a true beast, but alas, it won't be that exciting if you really don't yearn for the four E-cores - there is simply no reason to choose it over R5 7600 at this point. Heck, for builders of a new PC, even if it would be 50 € cheaper, would you really choose it over R5 7600, since you will be stuck on that LGA1700. I'm not sure what I would choose in such scenario, but in any case the R5 7600 seems to be the workhorse of value oriented PCs of this year, far into the future.

    Really impressive results.

Yes I am happy with my Ryzen 5600 and for only £130. But the 7600 really does give a good solid ground maybe for a next build on a budget?

You're missing 1 big advantage of the i5 13400.... You're not forced to replace RAM, making it considerably cheaper.
Platform isn't really a good argument here when people are already looking at a complete platform change anyway. Most of us aren't jumping platforms often enough for a motherboard swap to really matter. Some of us remember the promise of being able to run all future AM4 processors on early AM4 motherboards, only to be forced to upgrade motherboards later. At least Intel has never lied about requiring a future motherboard replacement.

I've been pricing my next upgrade route for the last couple of days.
If I were to switch from my current AMD R5 5600X to an Intel i5 13400F....I would have a total upgrade cost of $391.97
If I were to switch from my current AMD R5 5600X to an AMD R5 7600....I would have a total upgrade cost of $608.98
Price difference is $217.01.....which leaves me enough money to step up to an i5 13600K, i7 13700F or i7 13700KF.....all of which outperform the R5 7600
R5 7600 is hardly a great value when you take into account the total platform cost....and "far into the future" the i5 13600K, i7 13700F and i7 13700KF will still be quite easily outperforming it, for the same or lower total cost.

"Some say"....some are idiots. Intel lists the i5 13400 as being a Raptor Lake part and unless someone has actual proof to the contrary, there is no reason to assume Intel is lying. Intel is unlikely to risk their reputation or legal action by falsely claiming that Alder Lake parts are Raptor Lake parts. Cache size and clock speeds don't actually matter. What matters is overall performance. Doesn't matter if the i5 13400 is clocked at 2ghz with 1mb L3 cache, if it outperforms a chip clocked at 6ghz with 1gb L3 cache, so that's a really piss poor argument. Also, the R5 7600 is intended to compete with the i5 13600.... Why stretch to compare it to a lower range processor?

Just for fun....I priced that same i5 13400F for DDR5....and it's still only $544.97 and is still $64.01 cheaper. And if you're planning to ride out the R5 7600 "far into the future"....that's still a future savings of $64.01 since the i5 13400F will be usable just as long as the R5 7600 is.... If you want to be realistic, there's really very little reason to choose the R5 7600 over even an R7 5800X3D if you're already on AM4.....especially on a B550 or X570 board that can run it.

If you're looking for a build on a budget, Intel is actually a better choice since you're not forced to replace memory.....

get a b760 mortar max ddr4 with that 13400f. It's 220 usd, has exernal clock generator for locked skus oc, add some low latency 3733/3600 c14 b-die sticks (I have them already) and forget about +600usd six core systems, that is just ridiculous. My 8-core, 16g of 4133 c16-16-16-31 ram and a quality z490 board cost me under 550e two years ago.

Yeah, to be honest, if I upgrade before 14th Gen, I'll probably go with a i5 13500. Looking at the benchmarks, it's really hard to justify the cost of an R5 7600 when you can get the same or considerably better performance from Intel....for the same or considerably less money.

I'm not seeing a B760 Mortar Max. The board I'm looking at is the MSI PRO B760-P WIFI DDR4. The only thing it really lacks in is integrated audio. For some reason, MSI keeps reusing the old as dirt ALC897 codec. It's only $180 though and I'm not really big on OC'ing these days and I can easily get by with the 32GB DDR4-3200 kit I already have since the point in the DDR4 board is to stay as cheap as possible.....plus I already have to buy 2 of everything...lol

@sykozis I actually referred to new system builders in my post, so please read carefully, but even if considering just upgraders, here are my calculations (Prices from Finnish shop Jimm's, 11.01.2023. There are often slightly better deals in other stores, but the mentioned is the most popular):

Acceptable motherboards with eight USB slots:
    Gigabyte B650M DS3H - 199,90 €
    Gigabyte B660M GAMING X DDR4 - 171,00 €

    A decent DDR5 memory kit:
    Kingston 16GB (2 x 8GB) FURY Beast, DDR5 5200MHz, CL40, 1.25V - 91,00 €

CPUs, though the other one without iGPU:
    Ryzen 5 7600 - 279,90 €
    Intel i5-13400F - 254,90 €

For resale reference, you can get 30 € for a common kit below:
    Corsair 16GB (2 x 8GB) Vengeance LPX, DDR4 3200MHz, CL16, 1.35V - 57,90 € (new)

    199,90 + 91 + 279,90 - 30 = 540,80
A tad steep, mostly because of the motherboard, and the CPU could be cheaper too, but the upgradability is a major factor in this comparison, because we can assume that six-core CPUs of later generations will be blazing fast in games, while Raptor Lake, no matter how many cores you get, will not keep up, though they are fast enough far into the future as said, just like even an R5 5600 will be, so why not buy that if budget is tight?

    171 + 254,90 = 425,90 | The difference: 540,80 - 425,90 = 114,90
Your argument is quite valid here, but this general calculation here shows that your numbers are still quite far off from reality even without resale, I dare say wherever you live. This more realistic price difference is certainly something one could consider to pay to get that greater platform and of course DDR5 RAM, since Raptor Lake tests are usually done with DDR5, which means they are not as fast with DDR4 as in the benches.

Certainly not an obvious decision, but R5 7600 is not out of the question even for upgraders who mainly game on their machine. With 60 € less costs, the R5 7600 would be in my opinion clearly the more appealing choice, again, for gamers.

You say new system builders then several lines down mention reselling parts, which implies upgrading.....so which is it? If we're building a new system, there's nothing to resell. Most of us would consider cheaper and faster more appealing.....especially for gamers on a budget. If performance projections are true, the i5 13400 will run between 5% and 20% faster than the R5 7600 depending on application, for a lower cost. And again, the useable life would be just as long as that of the R5 7600...... In fact, I could ride out my R5 5600X for just as long as I could an R5 7600 or i5 13400(F).....

The costs I listed in my previous post are very realistic and still current as of 8:27pm EST. Prices were actually verified while composing that post.

Why would anyone buy a dead platform? Slapping a 13900k in the future compared 7800x3d or even 8800x is not even close. AM5 will last much longer.

Im just about to build new amd system and i dont even see another option tbh.
