Also, one more thing concerning these GPU prices: 4090 is way more expensive because it's faster, and many people are ok with this. By this logic the next 5090 should be even much more expensive, because it will be faster. And 6090 should be even more, etc.
So the question is when will this stop! Should msrp be 5000usd at some point, with doubled prices at sale!

if you think this is bad, try playing with stuttering at 30fps

    95% true
and i'm not going to quibble on the 5%

but in total reality we have to look at the market. yes many people have migrated to console, and yes the games cost more for those who don't buy xbox pass or the sony equivalent. but many of those folks have family finances to consider and the $50+/game is an easier purchase as it often ends up as a gift or giftcard without the massive outlay of a full PC.
so yes over a couple of years the console gamer will spend hundreds more. equaling or bettering the cost of a gaming pc.
but that is an argument at the kitchen table when you're paying bills.

i've spent many good years of my life working in consumer electronics, which the PC industry mirrors. so the biggest trend is not Consoles, it's gaming Laptops. many gamers have realized the easiest way to buy modern gpu's (especially during height of crypto) was to buy the mobile version as you could get a "leet" laptop at the price of a scalped gpu. and btw, Nvidia sold 3x 3080m vs. rtx3080 full fat

together, the consoles and laptops have eroded the traditional PC market by over 30%

Unreal Engine 4 can have framerate issues, like any game, but the shader stutter issues does not happen on consoles due to their fixed hardware which means the shaders are downloaded with game install and updated, if necessary, with patches/updates. It is something the PC will never be able to do. The best we can hope for is future GPUs that can compile the shaders on-the-fly without CPU intervention and without causing stuttering or requiring 10+ minute waits for them to compile (and every time you update the graphics driver too).

Steam also has pre-compiled shader cache's it will download if it has one that matches your setup.
