Dragons are the keepers of time. So anything might happen. DeathWing springs to mind.

Looks like they'll be doing away with borrowed powers for the most part. The new skill tree looks alright but eveyone will play meta anyway so no difference there.

The new zones look nice though, have to admit and the mount rework looks like a step in the right direction.

UI changes won't bother most as they use ElvUI anyway, making "I can move the minimap to the bottom left corner of my monitor, wow" a silly selling point.

The professions rework looks promising, giving those who can make stuff a meaning, people placing orders to get crafters craft the gear, for a coin, why not?

I'll obviously play this on release.

    Phase One: October 25
    • Talent System Revamp: Dragonflight contains major updates to World of Warcraft classes, centering on the re-introduction of talent trees. The new talent system empowers players to make creative and meaningful talent choices without compromising their effectiveness—and most importantly, it gives them meaningful options at every level.
    • Heads-up Display User Interface (HUD UI) Changes: Players will experience an updated User Interface (UI) and Heads-Up Display (HUD), allowing customization of the base UI and providing a modernized appearance to the layout and view while maintaining the original design’s charm and personality.
    • Accessibility Features: A variety of new features that will include “press and hold” spellcasting, interact keys, gamepad support, and more.
    • Rated Solo Shuffle: First introduced as a PvP Brawl, we up the stakes by adding the ability for players to earn (or lose!) rating with the introduction of Rated Solo Shuffle. Players will be able to earn seasonal rewards and achievements, credit toward Vicious Mounts, weekly great vault progress, and Conquest similar to Rated Battlegrounds and Arenas. Cross-faction play will also be enabled. Dragonflight-specific ratings and rewards will become available with the start of Dragonflight Season 1.
    • New Class and Race Combinations: The rogue, priest, and mage classes will become available to all races to create and play.
    Phase Two: November 15
    • New Race/Class: Dracthyr Evoker Available: Players will menace their foes (or empower their allies) as the new dracthyr Evoker, World of Warcraft’s first-ever race and class combination. Able to switch between a humanoid visage and a fearsome draconic form, the dracthyr are highly mobile, and their unique Evoker class can specialize in ranged damage-dealing or in aiding their allies as a healer by harnessing the mystical gifts of dragonkind.
    • New Zone: The Forbidden Reach: Play through the starting zone for WoW’s newest hero class, the Dracthyr Evoker
    • New Dungeon: Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr: Located in the Badlands within the Eastern Kingdoms, players will venture into Uldaman to lay claim to a legacy of knowledge left behind by the titans. This ancient titan facility is where, long ago, allies of the heroic Keeper Tyr hid the Discs of Norgannon.
    • In-Game Events: Primal Storms: Ward off attacks from the Primalists with new quests and world events, setting the stage for Dragonflight’s launch.

Maybe. The engine is upgraded every expansion(higher spec requirements), so in the respect it is. They have also just updated the UI and skills trees for the first time in a long time.

It's a MMORPG, not much can be changed. There is Ray tracing support, plus quite high spec requirements to run the game at it's highest settings.

  12. WoW has had the most interesting engine of any major MMORPG afaik; it supported OpenGL, DX9/ex, 11, 12, and native Metal for macOS, along with ray-tracing for shadows, all with great performance, and it's even great on DXVK on Linux. WoW also natively supports M1/ARM Macs. The overall art style doesn't change much, but the tech does.

GW2 was DX9-only up until this year and now has 11, dropped support for macOS (their support before was through a Wine wrapper), and today runs sub-optimally (high polling mice drop FPS by 10-20 on movement, CPU usage nightmare on Linux/Wine, and FPS drops overall if more than 3 high-quality characters models are shown).

FFXIV afaik is DX11, and MoltenVK + Wine for macOS, where it just happens to work on M1 pretty well through Rosetta apparently.

Has anyone said if there's plans for WoW to come to Xbox? The controller support and UI changes seem to be pointing to this.

There isn't enough buttons on a controller to play WoW. I use over 20 different actions and combos for example.

Never really like wotlk. The classic version of the game in general is excellent though. No mini map to navigate around.

It's more casual nowadays. Revamped skill trees and more advanced professions etc. PVP is now balanced too.

If you don't enjoy the experience after your long time absence I'd be very surprised.
