No. I hate, repeat hate 16:9.

If its not 3440x1440 or 5120x1440 I wont touch it. Can not stand the hard on over 4k.
Plus its harder to push 3840x1080 then it is 2560x1440. 1440p is less demanding then one thinks vs pushing 2 1080p panels.
    I have tested and owned 1920x1080, 2560x1080, 3840x1080, 3440x1440, 5760x1080, 7680x1080, and 3840x2160.

In game resolution slider isn't placebo. The game is still render a higher resolution, more gpu bound, and still looks better.

    I'd rather have gotten a 49 inch 1440p but in dec 2020 they were $1399 vs $899 for my 49 inch 1080p

Because then you'd have real 1440p and not some crappy downscale 1440p to 1080p. Performance would be the same, but I'm sure quality would go up. And if you think 135% rescale isn't placebo, I'm sure you agree 1440p would be even better than what he has now.

Well, get a 5120x1440 then? You'll have the same performance but better image quality.

How can performance be the same when 5120x1440 have 30% more pixels to render? :p

    3840x2160 8m pixels
    5120x1440 7.2m pixels
    3440x1440 5m pixels

    You are missing it here.
5120x1440 is the same as running 2 2560x01440 panels.
    3840x1080 is 2 1920x1080 panels.

    1920x1080
    2560x1080
    2560x1440
    3840x1080
    344x1440
    5120x1440
    3840x2160.

Thats the order of the resolutionsin rendering difficulty in games.

Yes, I would get better image quality with same settings if I upgraded to a 1440p Super wide. That doesn't fix the cpu bottleneck I experience.

5800x3d, and 5900x is a lot cheaper then a monitor. In fact, I prolly could go AM5 for the same cost of a 1440p SW.

Thing is that you already had such a display but you broke it. Not your fault though crap happens. :D

Im still upset about it. The only thing computer wise I have ever had break that almost made me tear up. I may end up selling my 49 inch and get a 49 inch 1440p by years end.

My 49 inch sits insanely perfect with my setup.

i have bad memories of my gtx 980 SLI
it was w/c and i used one card with a factory waterblock and one card with an aftermarket EK...it was my first time i put a block on a gpu (that wasn't pre-made)
i ruined a ROG x79 mobo. (and then ranted about how mobos should have covers lol)

Last year was my first year with a custom loop.

All previous setups were AIOs on cpu and modded GPUs with AIOs.
And i wished I went this route before.
Yes, a risk with a custom loop and damaged parts. But so worth it for the look, quietness and temps.

Used to be scared and put my big boy underwear on lol.

I always used blower type cards for SLI or crossfire, except for when I had RX 480s nitrous for the fun of test Multigpu in Shadow of The Tomb Raider.

the heat from the blowers was why i went w/c
that was an expensive as hell lesson but one well earned

New monitor costs money. Why change if he is satisfied? Use the money on better cpu, memory or gpu ;)

Because then he can just forget about the 135% and use 100% scale on a TRUE 1440p monitor.
In that case, probably the best choice. I don't see the gains in this generation enough for your needs.
All of those cost money too, combined probably as much as a native 1440p monitor.
As he wants more performance we were discussing what would be best but the 135% render resolution made me scratch my head. But alas, he is right and a new monitor wouldn't give him more performance. That said, I don't think this generation has the performance uplift he wants, so maybe better wait out for next generation.
