Idk if we should wait for v-cache versions of the same or just upgrade to regular 7000 series. I guess we need to see how it stacks up to zen3 first. Cant wait for the review.

I'm guessing that v-cache might not bring such big performance increase this time.
For example, Zen3 gains a lot by tweaking memory. But the gains with the 5800X3D are smaller when tweaking memory.
Zen4, with so much memory bandwidth, might not need that much cache.
The only incognito is how latency will be with Zen4. If it's very high, then the 3d cache might become important.

    Man, get a 5800x3d, 5900x or get AM5?
Prolly cost effective not too get AM5.
    7700x looks very tempting.

    Il be getting 64gb RAM
    7900x or maybe a 7950x
    Taichi 670E.
    My current 3800x
    32gb RAM
Taichi 570x along with my old 1080Ti will go with that until the replace it with the 6900xt once the 7900xt is out.
The old kit will become a dedicated video editing rig, well dedicated until a mate comes round and we smash a bit of Co-op.

    but it's coming nevertheless.
and latency (according to silicon rumor mill) is no longer an issue with Raphael or it's Infinity Fabric (not to mention the lowest QVL DDR 5 is insanely fast compared to DDR4 3600).

i DO think the hype is justified for Raphael-X3D just based on the sales figures of Milan-X and the commentary i've heard from Google engineers (re: Milan-X vs last gen server cpus).

of course for the consumer grade it remains to be seen... but folks here in The Valley are seeing a lot more verve from the AMD types. personally, i'm just happy they haven't cut back any orders re: economy worries as i'm a supplier. more worried about that on Intel (for ML as RL supplies are already sold).

Took me a while to realize what I'm looking at but the notches in the paste give it away :)

Hopefully your experience was pleasant (I know you can't say).

i'm going with a 7950x straight replacement and have already squirrelled away the funds for that and either a mobo w/TB depending on price. i may still go with a PCIe TB card (typically $100-150 for latest & greatest flavor) as i do the 6950x on ATX and i expect to do the same w/ 7950x . i just like a clean, "aerodynamic" build (for gpu airflow reasons)

Do you really need it or is just for bragging rights? Save up for next release and go all in then.

I do. 3840x1080 144hz with a 6800xt rapes my 5600x. Cpu heavy games, even BF1, are pegging 90% usuage with 135% resolution slider to internal render 5120x1440 basically.

My thread ripper is my bragging rights lol.
This is my pure gaming rig.

The 7700x seems very interesting for me.

The problem is going to be the prices of the MBs, they are becoming expensive as hell...

Wouldn't it be better to get a 1440p or 4K monitor at this point?

Some like high fps than nice graphics, and some likes both. The last is not cheap :p

    Everyone has their preference.
If he is pushing 135% resolution on a 1080p wide monitor, why not just get a 1440p one?
Also, if he didn't push 135% resolution he wouldn't need new hardware for more fps.
I'd guess without the extra pixels the difference would be placebo.

When he has 1080p monitor, and is satisfied with it, why use money on 1440p monitor? 135% res scale is like AntiAliasiing :) It isn't placebo by any means.

    i'm amused
i had to argue w/ some folks that the largest market segment for gamers (and overall) is 1080p
i don't like 1080p but that doesn't have anything to do with the reality of 1080p.

my choice for the last 5 years has been 1440p, but that may change soon as there are (finally!) now full featured 4K monitors between 27" (too small for 4k imho) and 55" (too big imho).
but mainly because now i have a gpu that can do better than 120Hz @ 4K
