Hello, Looking to buy a new monitor for my spare computer, and wondering which way to go. CPU - AMD Ryzen 1600X RAM - 16GB Video Card - 6700XT Games played - Overwatch | Call Of Duty | Roblox | Star stable | Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Monitor size will be 32” I’m wondering what monitor would generally look better for gaming when comparing a 1920x1080 resolution with 0.5ms response time and a 240 or 360hz refresh rate versus a 1440p monitor with a 1ms response time and a 165hz refresh rate. I can get the 1920x1080 monitor significantly cheaper than the 1440p monitor, however on the main PC I game at 1440p and as such have become a custom to that resolution. I’m worried if I went down to 1080p even at 240hz or a significantly big jump in refresh rate the picture / gaming quality wouldn’t feel or look as nice as the 1440p resolution? Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Yeah you wanna go 1440p mate 1080p on a 32" screen will be like 720p on a 24" screen and look horrible
I was using 1080p monitors for a decade and always thought it was good enough, and that going for 1440p was not a big jump. A bit over a year ago I switched to 1440p, and realized how very wrong I was. There is a loss in performance, of about 30%, depending on the game. But image quality is much better, much more detailed and crisp. Especially at a time when all games use TAA, that causes a bit of blurry image.
even on 21.5" you can't do anything with aliasing at 1080p it always looks bad 1440p is the best trade off you can have
In Wide screen (16:9) 24 ~ 25" - 1920x1080 27" - 2560x1440 32" and above - 3840x2160 In Ultrawide screen (21:9) 29" - 2560x1080 34" ~ 35" - 3440x1440 40" - 5120x2160 In Super Ultrawide screen (32:9) 43" - 3840x1080 49" - 5120x1440
32" is really pushing it for 1080p. 27" is really as big as I comfortably would go for that resolution. Not that 32" doesn't work, but the PPI is extremely low at 32". So my vote would go 1440p as well. Small typo, 3840x1080 and the smallest 32:9 screens are I think 43.8" *Uber late edit, as when I read it back later I totally sounded like a dick. Sorry about that.
Funny that. I thought something felt off with the 25" Gigabyte Aorus KD25F 240Hz. The pixels felt a little strange that PUBG would show the flaws on. The extra 1 inch made it look a little enlargement of pixelated pixels. So I can only imagine what 27" must have looked like. 1080p looks best from 23 - 24" at most. Anything bigger and it starts to look a little odd. I don't know why but I don't like to go above 27" for 1440p. Even 2560x1600 gave me neck issues on a 30" Apple Cinema Display from 2007.
I recent went from 1080p 24" to 27" 1440p mind you the 1080p was using DSR for 1440p, and when I ran 1440p on that 27" the 1440p looked like 1080p to me.. The bigger the screen is the more resolution you need, next time I try get new monitor I will get 27" 4K monitor and that will probably look like 1440p me 27" is to big for my desk which another reason why that 27" went back other then ips glow i refuse to deal with As forOP Personally if it for a spare computer get what ever is the cheapest monitor, I dont think 120hz/240hz or what ever is worth less you will drop money on gpu to do those kind framerates, and i wouldnt not do that for spare computer or play some really old game that would have no issue do that. 1080p on anything more then 24" look horrible to me.
