Thats unusual. They feature a horn. Still, JBL must know what they are doing and they look darn expensive.
Hold on, is that a horn?

300 Watts for two 5" drivers?! Sounds like complete overkill, unless the drivers are woefully inefficient or the amplifier specs are completely fudged.
It's certainly ugly, looks like it came straight from 70's styling.

    US$2,200.00. Yikes.

Yes, they are feature packed and all but for $2200 you can make a better system than these with all the features + extra.

    appearances are deceiving.
there is no 300w RMS amp. each speaker is bi-amplified (one for bass one for treble) with the bass amplifier being more powerful. the total for each speaker is 150w with around 120w for bass and 30w for treble.

and for what it's worth horns are highly efficient and many speaker companies still use horn-loaded effects (like KEF, Tannoy, JBL, and Klipsch)

i would recommend for Gurus the JBL 305 ( $270pair ) small studio monitor
which is a bit cleaner looking and w/o the DAC & bluetooth (you can use your PC)

    Nice pickie.
For sure, for that kind of money they gotta sound impeccable. But price wise I prefer your option.

JBL is the "Boom Boom Bling Bling" brand from the mother house... hopefully they still know how to do less colored and more neutral one under other brand :)

My 25 year old Altec Lansing speakers finally died and had to be replaced. I am so sad. I bought some Logitech Z623 speakers and I am very disappointed. My Altec Lansing speakers looked good, but most importantly they had perfect sound, tone control and left right balance along with subwoofer volume. I really miss those features in these new speakers that sound like crap in comparison.

Good thing speakers are for listening to and not staring at. I have the JBL 305 MKII's and they sound great.

Funny trend, Studio Monitors and PC's.

A good Studio Monitor is dead flat. I'm thinking a lot of so called "Studio Monitors" might not be all that much Studio Monitor.

A lot of them are really cheap too it seems, at under $500 each. Questionable.

    absolutely correct.
but just like Geo. Orwell's "Animal House" some pigs are more equal than others.

but the "secret" is no secret - they're made in China, some are very good.

these are under $500 a pair, from the Oldest Brand In Speakers
and they are amaze-balls and i'm an audiophile. see my review in audiophile thread
and the 5" model is just as good for less (less power not as deep in the bass)
