Windows 11 will now tell whether your computer is DirectStorage capable.

It won't on my pc, because the update is botched. KB5014668 won't install (0x8000ffff).

 

I'm after a reason to bother upgrading my main gaming PC to Win 11. This could well be it.

 

If you have an AMD system like me, then you are forced to use the AMD RAID drivers (rc bottom device). Just change it to the Standard NVMe Controller driver and the drive will appear in the Computer Management. I also made this disk a dynamic disk, but that is optional. Just something helpful incase you go AMD.

That's only the case if you have the NVMe mode set to RAID. With my ASUS PRIME-X470 PRO motherboard, it defaults both SATA and NVMe to AHCI, and NVMe defaults to the standard controller driver on Windows.

I tried RAID mode once with a single NVMe and AMD's driver and didn't notice a difference. I was expecting AMD's driver to do something different with IRQs.

Becouse you need to have insider preview of w11.

 

Im curious if faster nvme pcie4 will make a difference or even slower pcie3 nvme are also "capable".

 

One can also opt into the Game Bar Preview via the Xbox Insider app to have it updated via the Microsoft Store (it may take a while for you to get approved).

i have the last win 11 insider preview and i have installed xbox insider hub but i dont see anything about direct storage

 

By October they better fix the annoying bug in 22h2 version where everything on windows 11 gets a dam checkbox to the left of any file, its super annoying, windows 11 thinks my desktop pc is a tablet, and they removed the option to disbale tablet mode, they really mess with the basics

 

I guess that someone can write some simply 3rd testing utility..

 

YOU MUST INSTALL XBOX INSIDER HUB, ALSO YOU MUST INSTALL XBOX GAME BAR INSIDER, JUST GO TO THE XBOX INSIDER HUB APP AND GIVE PARTICIPATION TO GAME BAR - SDK DEVELOPMENT AND THEN TO WINDOWS GAMING

 

I'm gonna bet that faster won't be noticeable.
Like at all.
2500 vs 7000 mbps won't be noticeable unless benchmarked to the millisecond.

 

What would be a good ssd that would support this feature?

 

For reference, my slowest NVME supports it.
