early adopters always have it the worst imo
it's going to be the same with new gpus design,be it amd's more unified MCM or Nvidia's more flexible COPA

MCM is like cores count, no one should give a rat ass about them, just all meaningless numbers anyways...
I couldn't care less whether Nvidia or AMD are using 10 die under the hood; actual performance, features and efficiency are what matter.

Yes but knowing whats under the hood is always important. Just like having V12 engine in lambo. :D

Would be funny when a V12 car lose to a L4 one in drag racing wouldn't it :D.

Well, AMD MCM put pressure on Intel, so it might do the same with GPUs and Nvidia. Which would be good for us customers, strong AMD = lower prices or better budget/bang for bucks products from Intel & Nvidia.

Well the rumors are also that only the cache is chiplet which honestly makes a lot more sense.

Regardless I understand that an MCM is seen as one GPU but the hardware scheduling you're talking about is extremely complicated and causes all kinds of scheduling issues depending on the workload involved. Nvidia released several whitepapers about it when derisking MCM. This one is probably the best one:

    https://research.nvidia.com/sites/default/files/publications/ISCA_2017_MCMGPU.pdf

I think MCM is the future but it's going to take a while to get there in gaming. MCMing the processing units will probably happen with compute first then gaming later if Nvidia's whitepapers are accurate. Splitting just the cache off (supposedly what AMD is doing) is a lot more simple to do and still yields a benefit - it's a nice stop gap.

    Tbh, I don't give a s.... about max perf, RT or even perf/watt, I want better perf/$$ ....
5 years ago I bought an RX580 8Gb for 250, right now the best u can get on newegg for 250 is a RX6500 4Gb with the same performance..... that's 5 years of no progress...

Stay strong soldiers, better prices will come soon enough.
Crypto continues to go down, today for example ETH got the lowest it has been in more than a full year. And it's not just that, every other of these crap "coins" is going down.
It won't be long until large mining operations will have no choice but to dismantle and flood the market with 2nd hand GPUs, forcing the stores to drop their own prices.

You may say I'm crazy, but I think in just 3-4 months it will be possible to find RTX 3080's with just $400, and mid-range cards (6600XT) under $200

    I hear you

everyone is talking mcm, ad102 100tf and so on
the real battle is still going to be in mid-range, and it will concern how much you're getting for your hard earned money.

the performance, the features you get on every tier of gpus, the support - it's all part of what you're paying for in my opinion.

I really don't like what amd is doing in that regard to be brutally frank. To me it's just mind boggling that a person who buys a 6900xt only gets fsr with a handful of games to support it, while a 3050 buyer gets dlss.

I would agree that DLSS is better than FSR but let's not go crazy, most well-known titles support
DLSS the FSR1/2 and although NVIDIA has a lot more in its range, most of them are...

Let just say you don't play enough games to care about DLSS nor FSR :D, I played like 4-5 titles from the list you just copy and paste

it's never going to get dlss because amd is forbidding that
they might as well give it 2.0

True. Just going off the recent rumors from some of the insiders. I don't expect 100% but well over 50%. The 5nm node is supposed to get 30% power savings alone that is if they don't raise clocks which AMD is already clocking pretty high on GPU's.

I don't know what the actual performance of these new products will be, but what I do know by simply looking in my crystal ball is that the dark age of ultra-expensive cards is over.

There's no way in hell AMD or nVidia will be able to charge the ridiculous amounts they charged last two years and still sell enough of them, now that the only real customers are going to be gamers only... in a market flooded by millions of previous generation GPUs coming from all the dismantled mining farms.

Imagine a 7800 XT with $499 MSRP and very similar street price and 50% faster than current 6800 XT.
    ---
I for one am definitely waiting for next gen.
I survived so long without an upgrade, I can hodl another 4-5 months to see what both vendors come up with ...

Yep, the only way for AMD and Nvidia to sell their next gen GPUs is that they must offer exceptionally better Price/perf and efficiency, miners are unloading used cards into the market probably about now....

It may be that a 7700XT is about as fast(RT should be much higher) as a 6900XT - IF you have a "proper" motherboard - seems they will limit the card to PCIE @ 8X. A shame...
