Mine is almost always on even when non gaming. That's why it's worrysome.

    Not at all.
    Just this monitor.

I have same problem with my RX580 and Dell S2721DGFA and I "fix" this problem using 144Hz as default. On 165Hz VRAM stuck at 3D speed.

none of the currently on the market graphics cards will do idle clocks above144hz

My RX 6800m does idle clocks just fine at 300hz.

160hz & 6900XT, idling perfectly fine, as did my vega64 before.

Can confirm, Vega is fine with 144+Hz panels

Vram downclocking at idle has nothing to do with the monitors refresh rate. It's because some monitor manufacturers don't use standard Vesa timings at the max refresh rate and the GPU doesn't have the time to refresh the display without increasing memory clocks.
You can use CRU to set the timings to CVT-RB or use this website to manually adjust some timings if the default ones don't work. https://tomverbeure.github.io/video_timings_calculator
For example my monitor doesn't work with the CVT-RB timings at 1440p @144Hz. I had to lower my refresh rate to 142Hz and used that website to figure out the custom timings.
You'll want a "vblank duration" target of ~462-464us. if it's lower than 450us ( if I remember correctly) you will have max memory clocks at idle.
This applies for single monitor. Idk about dual or multi monitor setups.

Thx bud, just dropped 10c on the gpu memory in idle, and a few on the gpu as well (5700 XT).... worked with CVT-RB and 90 Hz instead of 95 on a Pixio PX275h.

    This did it!
Though, I didn't have to reduce the hz!

    Thank you very much!

Well, it's RADV implementation by independent developer.

Maybe we will see task/amplification shader implementation in AMD's proprietary (Windows) drivers at some point.

This is much more interesting... some info from Vanguard

More on OpenGL rewrite (codenamed "Orca")
Execute Indirect Optimizations seems to be already implemented in May Preview driver

I forgot to mention that Microsoft Direct Storage support aka "AMD Smart Access Storage" has been announced at Computex yesterday, so that's another point from that list

Nvidia isn't going anywhere because AMD still refuses to properly implement several opengl and vulkan capabilities citing "they don't run well on our hardware"
