Scientists Made a 'Fish' From Human Cardiac Cells, And It Swims Like a Beating Heart

With its tail flipping rhythmically from side to side, this strange synthetic fish scoots around in its salt and glucose solution, using the same power as our beating hearts.
This nifty miniaturized circulatory system, developed by scientists at Harvard and Emory universities, can keep swimming to the beat for more than 100 days.
The inventors have high hopes for the strange little device, composed of living heart muscle cells (cardiomyocytes) grown from human stem cells. ...

The creation of the 'biohybrid' fish focuses on two key regulatory features of our hearts: their ability to function spontaneously, without need for conscious input (automaticity); and messaging initiated by mechanical motion (mechanoelectrical signaling).

This insights learned from the research will hopefully allow researchers to more closely examine these aspects in heart diseases...

I enjoyed that. Not to sure about her choice of teeth whitener. Looks almost atomic.
But yeah, strange time we live in with the global warming thing. Seems to me china will be onto something big with the thorium reactor. They just need to mature the tech quick and sod politics,
China could make a great contribution to humanity by helping keep the planet cool.

Astronomers responsible for producing the first-ever image of a black hole in 2019 are about to make an announcement about something at the center of The Milky Way on May 12. Could it be an image of Sagittarius A* our galaxy’s supermassive black hole or the detection of an ancient cosmic string from the dawn of the Cosmos?

Hmm, with all this talk of order and the by product disorder. I wonder if the human mind will one day be uploaded to a computer and what will happen to that mind if copy pasted. 1 mind or 2 different minds and what if that mind is abused and used as an asset to develop AI systems.
The game I am paling at the mo is somna and the game raises these question and more.

Well its May 12 and the European Southern Observatory (ESO) and the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) project held a press conference to announce their first images of the black hole at center of the Milky Way, Sagittarius A.

Excellent vid. Finally I know why the typical image of black holes looks that way. The accretion disk surrounding it and on top includes the portion of it from behind where light is bent around the BH:

    bhole.png

Also in case anyone was wondering, the part @ 1:50 in the vid showing stars erratically orbiting the BH was taken over a 20 year time lapse.

Fastest-ever logic gates could make computers a million times faster

Logic gates are the fundamental building blocks of computers, and researchers at the University of Rochester have now developed the fastest ones ever created. By zapping graphene and gold with laser pulses, the new logic gates are a million times faster than those in existing computers, demonstrating the viability of “lightwave electronics.”...

    ... snip...

If these kinds of lightwave electronic devices ever do make it to market, they could be millions of times faster than today’s computers. Currently we measure processing speeds in Gigahertz (GHz), but these new logic gates function on the scale of Petahertz (PHz). Previous studies have set that as the absolute quantum limit of how fast light-based computer systems could possibly get...

    Before we get too excited...

“It will probably be a very long time before this technique can be used in a computer chip, but at least we now know that lightwave electronics is practically possible,” said Tobias Boolakee, lead researcher on the study...
