Never once had Windows 11 take that long to boot up lol, the boot time for me is probably slightly quicker than Windows 10 was.

Point is that you are effectively beta testers when running the newest OS.

My thumb rule is always use an OS version that is at least 1 year old.

To be fair, I had this issue with long boot times on my laptop even before win11 on it installed (was hoping that could fix it). Not 40 minutes, but restarts or shutdowns could take at least 5 minutes (screen is black but fans still going and power led still on). Initial cold boots were without any issues, tho.

One of the greatest things about these forums is, there is always someone here who said 'knew it' whenever Microsoft screw up :)

Running 11 daily for past couple months and no issues at all. Only thing that bugs me is its fanatical emphasis on security, where often I get admin prompts for simple functions like copying files from documents folder or running portable apps as admin.

Yeh my beta testing has comprised of smoother frametimes, HDR feature that works a lot better and a snappier more streamlined OS. Quite frankly, it's been a nightmare;)

Ahh, now I know why one of my machines takes AGES to boot since last week. It is not 40 min but can be 5min with a black screen before I can enter my PIN. It is even worse when you are OFFLINE, then it takes much longer and even loading the Desktop becomes a slow show. Going to test this fix.
Usually my PC only reboot when they need to and stay on 24/7/365. Till now I had no memory leak that I could call as such.

Always good to have a Dual Boot System with Linux as an alternative.

I have HP Z220 computer that takes 5 minutes to cold-boot Windows 10 from HDD. I have computer with Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC motherboard that takes less than a minute to cold-boot Windows 10 from SSD.

Fortunately, I have never run into this particular issue. That said, W11 boot times do seem a tad longer than W10 were - though that could be just confirmation bias on my part. I'm not going to reinstall W10 just to run a benchmark.

And people who advise waiting a year to adopt a new OS but to not upgrade (to a proven stable system) because the next (untested) gen is just around the corner.

Well, its not that Windows 11 is "total crap" but anything new has to deal with problems and then fix them.
I am running win10 on my laptop and win7 on my desktop.

2 years ago i would have said I prefer win7, now they are about equal.

But 2 years ago my dad was "fixing" his win10 laptop 2 times per year after some update bricked his system.

It takes time for these things to work well, but same as video games it seems OS now release too early and fix it later (I am honestly thinking this is why the forced auto-updates).

We are seriously discussing boot times in 2022? Even 600€ laptops nowadays take 12 seconds to boot. As for Win11, it seems the only people who have daily problems with it, are those who aren't using it.

    Exactly, very unproductive environment.
Instead of getting things done , user is fixing OS.

When I had W11 it was taking around 20 seconds to start, now I'm on W10 and it takes around 12 seconds to start.

40 minute startup? Lol that would be an instant wipe and re-install for me. Would not deal with that. I've been on W11 for a while now on my corp laptop. It has had so many random issues, I cant really recommend it yet to my users. Hopefully another 6 months and it maybe more solid.

Both my laptop and my desktop beg me to install W11, but I keep telling them to be patient.
