I mean, at this point, yea, probably. My CPU isn't a pos, it isn't super new, but is not ancient and people with even older CPU's report no issues, I assume it's gotta be some BIOS setting, gonna check that. Anyway, shouldn't have said that about the drivers, it's just that it frustrates me.

What about official 511.65, is it affected too?

It's happening with 511.65 here, too.

To put it in a bit of a comparison: It eats slightly more CPU cycles than a constantly (and playing music) running Spotify. The littlest crypto miner, harassing the windows registry.

    Much lower for me:

I checked with ProcMon and I definitely have this issue. A bit weird that this can go unnoticed for so long.

mine goes between 0.1-0.5% when I scroll in firefox or switch between windows, if i leave everything alone it's at 0.0 - 0.1%, Im just checking event log now and dont see anything unusual

Got the same dwm spam problem on 511.23 identified by Procmon64.
RTX3080 on an Acer X43A (unknown DP version).
    Will report to nVidia.

Here's the 2070 super system with a GSYNC certified monitor!

So that's both the 980 GTX and 2070 Super affected, both GSYNC monitors too

my monitor is a AW3418DW btw, DP 1.2

I've also submitted a driver feedback form

Current CPU usage tells you basically nothing because its very stuttery. Enable the "total CPU time" view, then you can compare how much it burns compared to your other processes.
I'm going to hazard the guess that dwm.exe is not supposed to eat any visible CPU percentage unless you are switching displays.

I just did a Process Activity Summary, it showed there were atleast 21,904 registry events compared to any other Windows process. Which is crazy!

dwm.exe uses between 0% and 0.3% for me on 511.65.

And it seems to spam 200 instances every 1-2 seconds.

Windows is the name of the OS - and this is the Desktop Window Manager. So I guess it is meant to be busy

Doesn't 472.47 suffer from the i/o writes issue?

If so, that's worse than the dwm.exe spam.
