Well there is no need to change sockets in every 1-2 years. Instead consider the end user, which is a good thing.

Maybe this time they don't go cheap on the firmware storage on the motherboards, so at least they won't have the excuse that the firmware for supporting all CPUs doesn't fit in a chip.

Did wonders for me. In the span of those five years I only upgraded my motherboard once. I'll be looking to do the same on the AM5 platform, assuming that I buy AMD next time.

I'm simply waiting for the next iteration of this upcoming generation to land before I make my purchase. No need to upgrade now and I've learnt to wait.

It is what made possible to sell overpriced 5000 CPUs. Platform advantage is big in favor of AMD.

x470 adopters made the most of it.
    for x370 it was just 1000 (+refresh) and 3000. they'll be missing 5000 and 50003D

a hint for those who'll rush to buy early am5.
that goes for early ddr5 too.

Pretty much my thinking. Bought the first gen B boards from AMD and then went X570. No regrets in my purchase at all and did me well, from first gen Ryzen to 3700x proc. But I don't have platform loyalty, it's whoever is the best for my use case at the time I go to market. But your logic for waiting is sound across the board, why I'm just chilling and banking on savings in the interim.

Its true for many users , thats why alder sales bad for DIY market. i'm on B550 , it will last for many years more.

PCIE 4.0 will be good for another 5 years sure.
32-64GB of ram will be good for another 5 years.
CPU i can upgrade from 5600X to 8-12 core if i need , sure solid 4-5 years ahead.

9900k overclocked with fast memory 35-40ns, has pretty much the same gaming performance as any Ryzen 3 cpu. No need for cpu upgrade....

Its the same with 10700/11700/10900. Intel re-released the same cpu three times.

I imagine the DDR5 market situation hurts Alder Lake sales as well. I couldn't possibly be the only person who would rather use DDR5 with a CPU capable of using DDR5, not DDR4 relying on backwards compatibility.

Which pain is that ? Maybe You can tell me where is that pain.

Or maybe you had "pain" and your "knowledge" isn't so great as you might think :) :)

They get a lot more business out of me when they use the same platform for everything I'm more likely to buy alot more on 1 socket if I know it will support a wider variety. I have 3 am4 boards/CPU's just in my house and got my brother on the same platform so if anything ever fails I have lots to swap in.

It was perfect for people that came from ancient hardware before, or no hardware before. So your point is?
The cpu's has very good performance in gaming (with fast memory ofc) ;)

    My old 10900k with 4700c17 1t memory is still a beast :D

I predict AM5 won't be such a shitshow. The Ryzen 1000 series was AMD's last chance at redeeming themselves, where they didn't have the time or money to really refine anything or do enough future planning. Not only is the architecture mature now, but AMD has had a lot more time and resources to properly plan forward.

So of they screw this up, shame on them haha.
